Like the last game, the game starts the player off with customizing their character. Also like the last game, there are two parts. The academy portion are a collection of minigames while the performances are rhythm games controlled via the touchscreen or the shoulder buttons.

The game sold surprisingly well, even compared to the predecessor's success. 167,910 copies were sold throughout 2013 and continued to sell into 2014, selling over 200 thousand early in the year.
