Baten Kaitos Origins(JPJapanese: バテン・カイトスII 始まりの翼と神々の嗣子
Romaji: Baten Kaitosu II: Hajimari no Tsubasa to Kamigami no Shishi
Fan Translation: Baten Kaitos II: Beginning of the Wings and the Heir of the Gods) is a Monolith Soft and Tri-Crescendo developed title that was published by Nintendo in 2006 for the GameCube. A prequel to Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean, this game was among the final games Nintendo published for the GameCube. Namco produced the game as they did with the original, however Nintendo stepped in to assist financially by publishing the game. Unfortunately the game was never released in Europe as the original was.
This title takes place 20 years prior to the first, and features a few new locations most notably the floating Island Hassaleh.
The game revolves around using magical cards while in combat. The player has three different levels of attacks including strong, medium and weak attacks. The cards are called Magnus Cards, and almost everything is placed on them, from weapons to armor. You won't permanently wield a weapon or a shield as you would in regular games, and rather you will have to draw the weapon or armor's card from the deck, where afterwards it will remain temporarily. The characters in the game all draw from the same deck of cards.
