Brinstar is a location in the Metroid video game series, first appearing in Metroid for the NES, and later making an appearance in Super Metroid and the original game's remake Metroid Zero Mission for the SNES and GBA respectively. It's an underground area that used to be a base for the antagonistic Space Pirates. In the events that took place in Super Metroid, Brinstar and its planet (Zebes) was destroyed.
[edit] Environment
The environment of Brinstar is unique and at the same time strange. In the upper portion of the area, you'll find plenty of flora, begging the question of how a forest the size of Brinstar grew this far underground. There are no forests in the lower portion, but rather you'll find red soil - possibly because of the fiery Norfair which is found directly below it.
[edit] Bosses
In the three games that Brinstar made an appearance in, three bosses were present. In the original game, there were no behemoths to fight, though in Super Metroid there would be two - the popular Kraid and the lesser known Spore Spawn, the latter being fought near the beginning of the game.
In the remake of Metroid, Metroid Zero Mission, Samus Aran would be required to fight the Brinstar Worm. When defeated Samus would be able to come in possession of the Charge Beam.
[edit] Super Smash Bros.
Brinstar is a stage in Super Smash Bros Melee and also returns in Super Smash Bros Brawl.
This stage has a central platform with 2 smaller platforms on both sides of the stage and a top one. Characters can attack certain sections of the stage which cause the platforms to serparate for a limited amount of time. Occasionally, acid will rise at certain levels, burning any characters that touches it. However, the top platform is always safe.
In the background players can see a statue of a Chozo, which will occasionally get up and walk around. Even farther back is an enlarged egg.
