Classic NES Series: Super Mario Bros. is a Game Boy Advance video game released in 2004. It is a port of the Nintendo Entertainment System classic Super Mario Bros., and of the games released is the most successful critically and commercially, selling well over 2 million units worldwide. While people can play Super Mario Bros. on the GBA in the form of Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, a much more impressive remake of the game that was released on the Game Boy Color five years prior to this game, this is the only chance that players can play the game on the Nintendo DS and DS Lite. Also, when this game was released, Deluxe was no longer available and thus this was an option for those who had never owned it. While the game was released in 2004, a reprint of the Japanese version (Famicom Mini: Super Mario Bros.) was released on September 14, 2005 to coincide with the game's 20th anniversary and with the release of the Game Boy Micro. While the game remains almost unmodified, the most significant change was the removal of the Minus World glitch.
Reception
Edit
Of all the games released in the series, this was the most praised by critics. GameSpot said that the game holds up well after al this time, "though some minor technical issues prevent this reissue from being as super as the original game". IGN rewarded the game with an 8/10 saying that it still is "amazingly fun", though that Super Mario Bros. Deluxe offered an overall better package with its copious extras and the addition of Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. Game Informer gave it a 9/10, saying that it is "the cream of the crop in retro goodness".
