Densetsu no Starfy 3 is a Game Boy Advance video game released in 2004 exclusively in Japan. The game, developed by TOSE and published by Nintendo, is the sequel to the game Densetsu no Starfy 2, which was released a year prior to this game. It was succeeded by Densetsu no Starfy 4 for the Nintendo DS, making this game the last for the Game Boy Advance. It contains similar gameplay to its two predecessors. One of the game's new features are multiplayer minigames.

Gameplay[]

In the game you'll take control of both Starfy and his sister Starly. You won't control them together, but rather the game will choose when you must play as one or the other depending on which stage you're playing on. Each character has five hearts that can be replenished with pearls that are scattered throughout the levels. Finding five small pearls will only refill one heart, while one bigger one will replenish one heart. The pearls are also the game's currency, and are used to purchase items at the store. The mermaids scattered throughout each level will also replenish your hearts and act as a checkpoint.

Vehicles[]

The game contains four different vehicles that the player can ride on. This feature is included in all of the Starfy games. The vehicles in the game can all beupgraded, and they are all controlled in a different way. They include:

  • Pogo: A pogo stick that lets the player jump very high when they use the A button. After Pogo has been upgraded, the player can press the B button after they've jumped to remain in the air for a longer period of time.
  • Ram: A Ram that scares enemies once it roars, giving you the chance to go in for a kill. It can also jump, but not very high. Once the player upgrades the Ram it'll be able to run, which turn will allow it to jump farther.
  • Horse: The horse moves very quickly, and cannot run into any enemies. With the horse, you must jump over enemies instead of ramming into them. With the upgrade, you can quickly tap the A button to make him soar through the air longer than before.
  • Submarine: The submarine stages will have the player going through darkened areas, maneuvering around spikes. Pressing the A button will cause the submarine's lights to turn on, though after a short while they'll turn off. With the upgrade, you'll be able to shoot torpedoes with the B button.
