Diancie(JP) is a Rock/ Fairy-type Legendary Pokémon, introduced in Pokémon X and Y. It was the first event legendary for the sixth generation. It is a highly mutated Carbink.

Physiology and Behavior

Mega Diancie

Diancie turns into Mega Diancie when it uses Diancite. It retains Diancie's colors but the lower half is now a dress-like structure with pink crystals extending further underneath. The gem on her forehead has turned a bit more heart-shaped with crystal bangs instead of pigtails. Two long ribbon-like structure extend from the back of her head. All the crystals and the ribbons seem to have tiny rhomboid crystals off the end of them. A larger gold crescent extends around its torso and some extend under her dress-like structure around the giant gem.

Appearances

Main Pokémon games

Diancie only appears in the games as an event-only Pokémon so, it lacks any notable interactions in the main games

Other Pokémon games

In the anime

Diancie appears as the star in the seventeenth movie, Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction, and the prologue special,  Diancie — Princess of the Diamond Domain

Origin and inspiration

Diancie could be based on the carbuncle, a mythical fairy-like creature that was rumored to have a jewel embedded on its forehead. The princess motif could also be based on the "princess-cut" diamond.

Name Origin

Diancie could be a combination of diamond, fancy and pixie.

Trivia

  • Diancie is the only Generation VI Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution.
  • Diancie's origins as a mutated Carbink is reflected in its near-identical moveset and learn rate, though it learns Trick Room in place of Power Gem
