Donbe (男の子(どんべ)) is a character from the Famicom Disk System video game Shin Onigashima. He, along with Hikari, were the main characters of the game. Donbe also appeared in the Super Famicom remake of the game, Heisei Shin Onigashima, but this time he and Hikari weren't the main characters. That role was taken by the three animals that accompanied them on their journey.

Shin Onigashima-Back-Donbe

In Shin Onigashima, Donbe was born in a rice bowl that was traveling down a river. He was found by an old woman the same day her husband found Hikari in a glittering bamboo tree. The couple adopted the two children and took care of them like their own. In a dream of theirs it was revealed to them that the two children would one day come to them, and thus it happened as prophecy foretold. When the children turned eight years old, a dragon appeared and turned all of the citizens into demons, though Donbe and Hikari managed to escape the dragon's wrath. They set out to save the world, and would along the way learn their origins.
