Awks are parrot-like enemies that appear in Donkey Kong Country Returns. They are commonly found throughout the game and replace the Gnawty from previous DK games. They are blue, with red feathers around their eyes and neck, red tail feathers, considerably large, have a vulture-like hunch, a long body, a large beak, and relatively short legs. When they see Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong, they let out an screech and charge at them, and attack by biting. They can be defeated by simply being jumped on or being attacked with a barrel roll. They are also one of the few enemies in the game that can be defeated with Diddy's Peanut Popguns. They are related to another common enemy, Rawk, which are red, faster, and more violent than Awk itself. Even though Awks are arguably the most simple enemies in the game, they appear in some of the Golden Temple levels, which are meant to be a challenge. Strangely enough, even though Awks are blue in the actual game, they are green in some artwork, which could have been a beta version of them.
