Healthandsafety

A health and safety warning on a Nintendo DS. The most common health and safety warning.

The Health & Safety Information is a set of precautions and warnings which users are suppose to take note of before using products released by Nintendo. As the name implies, it is a safety measure to prevent users from injuring themselves when they are using the hardwares.

History[]

The history of the Health & Safety Information goes as far back as to the 1990s. It first appeared in the form of a booklet, the Consumer Information & Precautions Booklet, sold with Game Paks of individual games starting in early 1992 (when Nintendo's current home console and handheld were the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and Game Boy respectively). This original form endured for nine years. Then in 2001, with the launch of the Game Boy Advance, the booklet was revised with its language considerably simplified, and its name was truncated to simply the Precautions Booklet. Then it became the Health & Safety Precautions Booklet in 2003. The booklet continued to be sold with games into the next generation (the Nintendo DS/Wii era); additionally, starting in late 2004 when that era began, a warning started appearing on games when booted up.

In more recent years, the Nintendo 3DS, did not get the startup warning. Instead, it had a Health & Safety Information application pre-installed in the system. The same also applied for the New Nintendo 3DS handhelds released in 2014, and the Wii U console. Currently, these information can also be browsed online on Nintendo's official website.
