Hydlide(JP) is a role-playing video game released in 1989 for the Nintendo Entertainment System. In the game, you take control of a hero who's goal is to hunt down an enemy of your kingdom's who recently stole one of three magical jewels. Together the three jewels powered Boralis, though with one gone that power did not remain.

Gameplay[]

The game is similar to The Legend of Zelda, also released on the NES. In the game you'll automatically start on a worldmap. Despite being an RPG, there are no random battles, which was commonplace in RPGs during this era. Rather, you'll fight enemies in real time, and gain experience by doing so. While traveling the world you'll find treasure chests that you can open to claim whatever is inside, which will help you later on in your quest. Like in Zelda, the entire worldmap is separated by square segments. Once you reach the end of one square segment and attempt to get to the other, the screen will scroll.

On the right of the screen are the players' statistics in this order - Life (health), strength, experience, magic, and how much health the monster you're fighting has. The player's magic can be switched by using the B button.
