The Lens of Truth

The Lens of Truth is an item in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. It is a magical magnifying glass created by the Sheikah bestows upon its user the ability to see through illusions, identifying invisible objects and seeing through fake walls and floors. It can also be used to see ghosts, letting Link speak with the dead. When in use the Lens of Truth is powered by Link's magic meter. They say that a man in Kakariko Village once possessed the Lens of Truth, either stealing it from the Sheikah or being a rogue Sheikah himself. He used it to commit many horrifying crimes but was eventually captured and executed by having his head and hands decapitated; his spirit becoming Bongo Bongo.

Obtainment[]

In Ocarina of Time, the Lens of Truth is obtained by beating the Dead Hand at the Bottom of the Well in Kakariko Village. It is optional but would make the Shadow Temple next to impossible without it.

In Majora's Mask, it can be found in a treasure chest in Snowhead.

Uses[]

It allows you to see:

  • Fake Walls
  • Floors (and lack thereof)
  • Invisible People
  • Invisible creatures
  • Invisible Items

Examples are Bongo Bongo and the Poe that guides you through the Haunted Wasteland.

Trivia[]

  • The Lens of Truth can be used to "cheat" at the treasure chest mini-game in Hyrule Castle Town, letting Link see what's in the treasure chest before he opens it.
