Lizalfos are recurring monsters in The Legend of Zelda series first appearing in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. They are swift and cunning lizardmen, with long limbs and sharp claws. Noticeably more intelligent than most monsters, they often attack in groups of two or more and use their agility to catch prey off-guard. In combat, Lizalfos will often use their powerful legs to leap over Link and attempt to strike him from behind. If one takes too much damage, it will flee and call the rest of its group for backup.

While Lizalfos clearly possess some form of culture, very little is known about it as they are mostly found in small hunting packs and rarely form large societies. They are known to be maneaters and consider the other races of Hyrule prey rather than allies. Lizalfos are often found in the mountainous regions of Hyrule such as Eldin and Death Mountain and seem to have high resistance to the heat given off by the lava.

They wield a variety of weapons, typically swords, along with a shield or armored gauntlet, for defense. Lizalfos have been known to tie mace or axe heads to the tips of their tails in order to make them more effective as weapons.

Dinolfos are a stronger, more muscular variant of the Lizalfos that is often capable of breathing fire, while Aeralfos are winged Lizalfos capable of flight.
