The scarpanid family is a family of enemies in the Pikmin series that appears in Pikmin, Pikmin 2, Pikmin 3, and Hey! Pikmin. These are based on flying bugs.

The Swooping Snitchbug is a flying member of the Scarpanid family with the ability to grab and plant Pikmin into the ground, it is unable to kill Pikmin by itself but can indirectly kill them by throwing them into a pit or hazards.

The Bumbling Snitchbug is a flying member of the Scarpanid Family that will grab the captains instead of the Pikmin and deal them incredible amount of damage by slamming them on the ground. It seems to live underground since it cannot be found on the surface.

Coppeller/Scarpanica viridelacus princeps[]

The Coppeller is a small flying member of the Scarpanid Family. It is unable to attack the Pikmin and Captain Olimar but they usually transport Sparklium seeds, health or captured Pikmin. They are weak and can be defeated in one hit but they usually travel in swarms and some of them may be able to escape Olimar alive.

The Muggonfly is an enourmous flying member of the Scarpanid Family. It is harmless and like the Copeller, it transport Sparklium seeds but transport multiple stacks at once. The Muggonfly in itself is unable to be killed by the Winged Pikmin.

The Spiny Coppeller is a flying purple member of the Scarpanid Family. Unlike the Coppeller, the Spiny Coppeller is unable to carry seeds but their body covered in spikes make them the perfect shield for the regular Coppeller as a simple contact with it will kill the Pikmin.
