Pokémate was a Pokémon-based cell phone application developed by Square Enix. It was released in Japan in December of 2006. In it, players are given a random Starter Pokémon and are subsequently able to capture Pokémon. The Pokémon they capture can then be used as the person's avatar when chatting with friends. The application had cost 210 yen per month.

Square Enix has been involved with many mobile applications based on preexisting properties including Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts.

International release and discontinuation[]

Despite being shown at E3 in 2006, the application was never released outside of Japan. The app was discontinued in 2008.
