Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord (JP) is a sequel to the WiiWare smash hit Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King, also for WiiWare. The game, developed and published by Square Enix, is a tower defense game that puts the player in the shoes of a darklord's daughter. The game was announced during Nintendo's GDC 2009 keynote. A free demo version of the game was released in North America on November 16, 2009.

Gameplay

The gameplay of My Life of a Darklord is completely different from My Life as a King. Whereas the predecessor focused on town-building and sending mercenaries to do real work, this game is level-based with a focus on figuring out how to build the tower to defend from the different enemy types. The player constructs the tower using Negative Power (NP) with a certain allotted depending on the items collected. The NP can be spent constructing floors, summoning monsters or powering them up. The player gains more NP by defeating enemies but, anything placed down cannot be taken back, being only removed when they or the floor is destroyed. Only one enemy can be active on a floor at a time. The player loses whenever the Dark Crystal on the top floor has been reached by an adventurer. Whenever a level is finished, the player is rewarded with Karma for how many adventurers defeated and for a level's completion

The game's combat revolves around the weapon triangle with units coming in one of five types. The first is balanced which deal neutral damage to everything and everything deals neutral damage to them. The main triangle are Melee, Ranged and Magic. Melee is good against Ranged but, not too effective to Magic. Ranged is good against Magic but, not too effective against Melee. Magic is good against Melee but, not too effective against Ranged. The final type is Healer that doesn't deal damage but, can heal. The weapon triangle applies to both the player and enemies. On top of the weapon triangle, there are various status effects that can affect both sides and enemies have priority targets.
