Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates is a Nintendo DS video game released in 2007 and 2008. The game is a prequel to the GameCube video game Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, and is part of the Nintendo exclusive Crystal Chronicles series that is heavily multiplayer based (though recently has become a single player experience as well). The game is more similar to games like Secret of Mana or Kingdom Hearts than the Final Fantasy series. The game features live action combat and even jumping, as well as puzzle solving.

Gameplay

In the beginning of the game you'll take control of Yuri, a small boy. His twin sister will accompany him on his journey, though she won't do any fighting at the moment. He'll use his hatchet that his father gave him and journey through a dungeon, where he'll learn the basics of the game and then conclude the temple by battling a mighty boss. As time passes by the two will eventually grow up and be accompanied by other characters.

Combat

In the game you won't trigger battles, but rather will just be able to fight monsters as you would in a game like The Legend of Zelda. By pressing the attack button, you'll swing with your sword. You can swing your sword three consecutive times, which will be followed by a short, split second pause. After this you'll then be able to start swinging again. To perform a magic attack, you'll have to use the touch screen and press one of the eight selections, that range from black to white magic. After this, you'll have to keep your finger on the x button and navigate the magic towards an enemy or ally and then execute it. You can even combine magics together to create an even more potent attack.
