Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem ~Heroes of Light and Shadow~  (JP) is a Nintendo DS remake of the Super Famicom video game Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem. It is the second Fire Emblem video game released for the handheld, the first being Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. It also adds several new chapters and playable characters, including an eight chapter prologue, several gaiden chapters which have their own new storyline, three DLC chapters, and all four chapters from BS Fire Emblem: Archanean War Chronicles.

Gaiden Chapters

In Fire Emblem: Shin Monshō no Nazo ~Hikari to Kage no Eiyū~, along with normal chapters, there are also several new gaiden chapters. They can be entered by meeting one of two sets of special conditions before the gaiden chapter.

06x Mercenary Squad Beat chapter 6 in 20 or less turns
Rickard is recruited and is alive
10x The Mask Laughs Beat chapter 10 in 15 or less turns
Three or more enemy clerics survived chapter 10
13x White Darkness Beat chapter 13 in 20 or less turns
Neither of the thieves escape in chapter 13
16x Reunion Beat chapter 16 in 18 or less turns
Avatar has been promoted and is over level 5
20x Depth of the Abyss Beat chapter 20 in 24 or less turns
Have Shield of Seals and at least three of Roshea, Vyland, Sedgar, Wolf, and Midia, recruited and alive

Chronicles

Chronicles are four chapters in the Extra mode that can be played using a set of characters. They are chapters that were originally included in Fire Emblem: Akaneia Saga.

DLC Chapters

Fire Emblem: Shin Monshō no Nazo ~Hikari to Kage no Eiyū~ has three new chapters that can be downloaded and played similar to the Chronicle chapters. They are based on the events before and after the events in the game.

International Release

Currently the game has not been announced outside of Japan, however a fan translation has been released by The Heroes of Shadow team. Due to the release of Fire Emblem: Awakening it is unlikely that it will be released elsewhere.

Trivia

  • This is the first Fire Emblem game to feature Casual Mode and a customizable Avatar.
