Flametail (Moyasu Puzzle Flametail in Japan) is a DSiWare video game released in 2010 by Nintendo and Mindware. A successor to the "square" game from the WiiWare title Maboshi's Arcade (also by Mindware), Flametail has the player controlling a line of squares that obliterate blocks that litter space. Enhancements have been made to the game such as being able to shoot missiles. The game, which costs 500 Nintendo Points, was released in 2010.

It should be noted that the Maboshi's Arcade variant of this game was already playable on the Nintendo DS through DS Download Play. However, this version is in many ways vastly improved. The player must also download the Maboshi's Arcade game again everytime they wish to play it if they turn the system off, whereas Flametail will remain on the Nintendo DSi, Nintendo DSi XL or Nintendo 3DS.

The game was among the four focused games on an episode of Nintendo Week (the June 7th, 2010 episode. Other titles featured were A Kappa's Trail, another DSiWare game, 100 Classic Books, and tips on Super Mario Galaxy 2).

GameplayEdit

The player controls the machine known as Flametail, a long line of blocks whose back end ignites blocks upon contact. The player's goal is to continue to work their way upwards, making sure not to get caught in a dead end or accidentally kill themselves. Squares with letters on them are scattered across the stages which, upon collecting them, give the player special powers (powers not present in Maboshi's Arcade) such as radar, missiles and bombs. A special power is granted to the player after they spell the power out (for example, in order to get the Zapall power, the player must collect a "Z", "P", two "L" squares and two "A" squares). Some powers require more squares than others (it just depends on how long the word is).
