Freezies, which first appeared on the original Mario Bros. under the name Slipice, was known to slip and slide in the course and suddenly stop and freeze portions of the ground. If Mario or Luigi gets in contact with them, they will lose a life. To defeat them, the Mario Bros. would have to be underneath the floor the Freezie is on and jump, if it is at perfect aim, they get 500 points. After their debut on Mario Bros., they appear on Super Smash Bros. Melee as a trophy and as a useful item (if it is not turned off at the item switch). These items are used as weapons to freeze opponents in a block of ice. Careful, even though they are frozen, any attacks involved with firepower will melt the ice almost immediately, also these items can be reflected.
"Freezies slip and slide along smooth surfaces and will happily slide off the edge of a stage if left alone. In Mario Bros., they would stop and freeze portions of the ground; in Super Smash Bros. Melee, they can be picked up and hurled as weapons. Hit a foe with a Freezie, and he or she will be temporarily encased in a huge block of ice."

"An item that freezes people. If you're frozen, you can't lift a finger to defend yourself. You can break out of ice by shaking the Control Stick back and forth. Hit someone with a Freezie, and you'll hear delightful sound declaring your success, but frozen enemies don't fly very far. Freezies tend to break easily when carried."
