Friend Collection (JP) is a Nintendo DS video game released in 2009 in Japan. The game is one of the few Mii compatible Nintendo DS games. In the game, you'll be able to interact with your Mii by partaking in various activities. You can cater to the needs of your Mii by touching their thought bubbles, which will reveal what they desire. You are able to feed them. In the beginning of the game you won't have very many food choices (only ramen, orange juice, and croquettes), but as you progress you'll be given more items. To feed them, you can hand deliver it or simply drop it on the floor. You can speak into the microphone and teach your Miis to speak short sentences, and can even make them say what you type as well (feature is limited). The Miis all live in an apartment, and you can change the layout of it and the theme.

Reception

Japanese publication Famitsu rewarded the title with three 7's and an 8. In its first day of sale in Japan, the game sold 50 percent of shipped copies with an estimated 38,000 sold. It debuted at number one in Japan's Amazon site for Nintendo DS games upon release.

Overtime the game began to gain momentum in a similar fashion to Nintendo's Pokémon franchise. Nintendo announced in 2010 that the game has sold over 3.2 million units. Despite this, Nintendo of America has confirmed that there are no plans of releasing it in North America. The European Nintendo subsidiaries have not commented on the game coming to Europe. Game producer Yoshio Sakamoto later clarified that translating the game into English would be very difficult because the Japanese language is integral to the game.

Trivia

  • Tomodachi is Japanese for friend. In the game the Mii is clearly supposed to be your virtual friend.
