FromSoftware, Inc. was formed on November 1, 1986, in Sasazuka, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Japan, by Naotoshi Zin. Originally it consisted of only four people with a capital stock of ¥2,100 million (which was roughly $12,572,215 in 1986). As of 2014 the company is owned by Kadokawa.
FromSoftware is best known for their King's Field, Armored Core, and Dark Souls series. Their role-playing games are notable for eschewing anime aesthetics and offering a considerable degree of free-form exploration and challenge.
It began as a software and business development company. During the early 1990's they started to work on 3D games for personal computers, but none of their projects from that time was completed. With the introduction of the PlayStation in 1994, FromSoftware entered the video game business. Their first game was King's Field (1994). The company has steadily released console games since then.
Note that there will be games which have appeared on Nintendo systems only.
