Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Heartbreak(JP) is a Game Boy Advance video game released in 2002 in Japan and 2003 in North America and Europe. The game, both published and developed by Nintendo, is based on the books from Japan. This is the second game to be released overseas in America and Europe. In the game, the character Spat is creating havoc in the world of Hamtaro when he starts ruining friendships. Hamtaro and his friend Bjiou must now set off to tackle this, who also happens to threaten the relationship of Hamtaro and Bjiou.

Gameplay[]

In the game, you'll traverse the world in which the series takes place. The Hamchat words that you learn will help you complete puzzles and thus beat the game. On the main menu of the game you can view words you've found in the Ham-Ham Dictionary. Some of the puzzles requires Hamtaro and Bjiou to take different routes with the player alternating between the two. The game contains short minigames.

The Legend of Zelda references[]

There are at least two possible The Legend of Zelda references in the game. In one portion of the game, the characters will remove a spoon from a pedestal in a similar manner to how Link removed the Master Sword in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. The other reference comes in the form of a quote, when a characters asks "Buy somethin', will ya?", a quote which was used in The Legend of Zelda for the NES.
