Hip Flip is a toy Nintendo released in 1968 for 980 yen. Nintendo received the license to manufacture the toy from the Parker Brothers company. In order to work, two participators are required to place the product in between them and hold it up by placing the plastic hands at both ends on their stomachs. With the product firmly in place, the two people must work together in twisting their hips to make the object in the center of the bar twirl around. The product was meant to be played at parties when music is playing, and is thought to have been created as a result of the hula hoop craze. Ultimately, the Hip Flip never was as successful as its more accessible predecessor.
