Joan is a character in the Animal Crossing series. First appearing in the Nintendo 64 video game Animal Forest, Joan appears in the player's village every Sunday morning to sell different types of turnips (in Animal Forest and Animal Crossing she only sells one type of turnip). The purpose of the turnips is to sell them to Tom Nook for a higher price. However, Tom Nook's price will vary each day.
Animal Crossing series
Joan first appeared in the Japanese only Animal Forest for the Nintendo 64 and later its remake Animal Crossing for the GameCube (which was released outside of Japan). In those two games she sold one type of turnip to the player every Sunday from 6 AM to 12 PM. Her prices change each time she comes to the player's town. In Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: City Folk she sells two types of turnips. The turnips are meant to be sold to Tom Nook for a higher price.
Super Smash Bros. series
A trophy and a sticker of Joan (the latter from Animal Crossing: Wild World) was present in the Wii video game Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The sticker could be placed on the trophy of all of the playable characters and would raise their battering resistance by 12. The following is the trophy description of Joan in the game:
- "Investments in town are made by buying and selling turnips. Joan's an elderly boar who comes to town every Sunday morning to trade in these valuable vegetables. She's easily recognizable by her bandana, work pants, and the basket she carries on her back. Her down-to- earth speech endears her to all her customers. She's been in the turnip business for 60 years."
In the game Joan's trophy appears randomly.
