Koops is a character in the game Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. He joins Mario's party once Mario is about to head to Hooktail's Castle, and is the second partner to join him. The Koopa Troopa lives in the small village of Petalburg, along with his girlfriend, Koopie Koo. Most of the residents of Petalburg think that Koops is a coward, so he goes with Mario to prove them wrong, and to avenge his father Koopley, whom they think is dead, but is discovered to have spent 10 years in Hooktail's stomach with the diamond Crystal Star. Koops is currently the only Koopa Troopa to wear clothes "outside" his shell apart from Bowser's tuxedo in Super Paper Mario.

When used, Koops goes into his shell and Mario jumps on him causing him to shoot vertically. He will return like a boomerang after he's reached a certain distance. He is used to hit switches, enemies, or just collect items from a distance, making him a very handy partner.
