Legendary Pokémon are types of Pokémon species that appear in every Pokémon video game. They are rare Pokémon that are not only hard to catch, but can also be hard to find. Each game has a certain amount of Legendary Pokémon, with Pokémon Diamond and Pearl having the most (a whopping 14). Usually, the cover mascot for a Pokémon video game is a Legendary, however some games such as Pokémon Red and LeafGreen feature the final evolved form of a starter Pokémon on their box art.

Kanto Region (First Generation)Edit

| Moltres | One of the three legendary birds, this one's type being fire/flying. Native to the Orange Islands (anime only). |
| Mewtwo | An altered clone of Mew that can be found in the Cerulean Cave. In Generation I, it was more powerful than any other Pokémon. Mewtwo was created by Team Rocket scientists on Cinnabar Island using Mew's DNA. |

A psychic Pokémon told about in an ancient legend. Though it was mentioned ever since Generation I video games, you could only catch in in Pokémon Emerald via a special card or in Pokemon Yellow Version - Special Pikachu Edition via a glitch. Mew is thought to be the origin of all Pokémon life by many scholars because of its ability to learn any taught moves. |

| Ho-Oh | The guardian of the skies, and one of the two generation II legendary bird Pokémon, and is the Mascot for Pokemon Gold and HeartGold. Ho-oh flies about the world on rainbow-clored wings.Those who gaze upon it are blessed with happiness. |
| Celebi | Celebi has the power to travel through time,but only appears during peaceful periods.In the forest where Celebi disappeared,it left behind an Egg it brought from the future. |

| Regirock | One of the three legendary golems, this one's type being rock. Regirock is made entirely of boulders. Without a brain or a heart, it's a mystery even to modern science. When its body is damaged, it repairs itself with rocks. |
| Regice | One of the three legendary golems, this one's type being ice. Regice protects itself in an envelope of cold air held at -328F. Its body was created during the last Ice Age. Not even lava can melt it. |
| Registeel | One of the three legendary golems, this one's type being steel. Tempered by tens of thousands of years of constant tectonic pressure, Registeel's body is now harder than any metal. Its body is hollow, and it is unknown if it eats anything. |
| Latias | One of the Eon duo, Latias can read the hearts of humans. Because of its high intelligence, it can also understand human speech. The specialized feathers that cover its body refract light. |
| Latios | One of the Eon duo, Latios become attached only to those with kind hearts. One Latios can transmit to another an image of what it sees or what it is thinking. It can fly faster than a jet plane. |
| Kyogre | An oceanic beast who has the ability to expand the seas of the world by dropping constant rain. It is the mascot for Pokémon Sapphire. It's said that Kyogre, the pokemon that controls water, made the oceans larger by blanketing the land with heavy downpours and massive waves. |
| Groudon | A land beast who has the ability to expand the land and create a constant and bright sunlight. It is the mascot for Pokémon Ruby. Ever since its battle against Kyogre, it has been sleeping in the magma deep underground. Groudon has the power to evaporate water through heat and light. |
| Rayquaza |
A dragon-like beast associated with the sky, who can calm strong weathers. It is the mascot for Pokémon Emerald. Rayquaza lives within the ozone layer, high up above the clouds, so it's impossible to see this pokemon from the ground. It lives on airborne particles and moisture. It once stopped Groudon and Kyogre's battles. |
| Jirachi | A Pokémon said to appear very rarely. It has the ability to grant a wish to anyone who asks for it. Jirachi is only awake for seven days every thousand years. |
| Deoxys | An alien virus that came from space and can alter its DNA. Deoxys was born when the DNA of a space virus was blasted with a laser. The crystal formation in its chest is actually its brain. |

| Uxie | One of the three lake guardians, Uxie is known as the"Being of Knowledge". Uxie gave the gift of intelligence in human life. It's rumored to have the power to erase memories. |
| Mesprit | One of the three lake guardians, Mesprit is known as the "Being of Emotions". Mesprit taught the nobility of sorrow, pain, and joy. It sleeps at the bottom of a lake, but at times its soul slips out of its physical body to fly. |
| Azelf | One of the three lake guardians, Azelf is known as the "Being of Willpower". Azelf lies at the bottom of a lake and keeps the world in balance. It is thought to have been born from the same Egg as Mesprit and Uxie. |
| Dialga | It is associated with the creation of time and was one of the two Pokémon first created by Arceus, along with Palkia. It is the mascot for Pokémon Diamond. Dialga possesses the power to control time. In the Sinnoh region it's regarded as a deity; the legends say that the flow of time bagan with Dialga's birth. |
| Palkia | It is said it was the responsible of the creation of the space. It is the mascot for Pokémon Pearl. Palkia possesses the power to control space. In the Sinnoh region it's regarded as a deity. It's thought to live in a parallel spacial dimension. It's said that the flow of space is corrected with each of Palkia's breaths. |

| Heatran | A Pokémon found in Stark Mountain, linked to fire and volcanoes. Heatran lives in volcanic cave. It can crawl about the walls and ceilings using its cross-shaped claws. |
| Regigigas | A giant Pokémon leader of the Generation III Regi trio. One legend states that Regigigas once towed an entire continent. It is very slow when it first starts moving. |
| Giratina | A Pokémon that lives in a dimension reverse of ours. It is normally found in ancient graveyards. It is the mascot for Pokémon Platinum. This pokemon was banished for its violence. It silently gazes upon the old world from the Distortion World. |
| Cresselia | A Pokémon said to be able to extinguish nightmares. It lies in Full Moon Island, but starts roaming once it is found by someone. Shiny particles are released from its wings like a veil. It is said to represent the cresent moon. Those who sleep holding Cresselia's feather are assured of joyful dreams.On nights around the quarter moon, the aurora from its tail extends and undulates beautifully. It can wake up those who have been trapped in Darkrai's nightmares. |
| Phione | A Pokémon only obtained by breeding a Manaphy and a Ditto. It appears to be the pre-evolution of Manaphy because of the breeding system, but there is no way to evolve it to Manaphy. A pokemon that lives in warm seas. It inflates the flotation device on its head to drift and search for food. It always returns to where it was born. |
| Manaphy | The "prince of the sea". It is notable for being the only legendary Pokémon able to be bred and hatch from an Egg, aside from Phione. Born on a cold seafloor, it will swim great distances to return to its birthplace. Water makes up 80% of its body. This pokemon is easily affected by its enviroment. It is born with a wondrous power that lets it bond with any pokemon. |
| Darkrai | A Pokémon that can cause nightmares in people and Pokémon, and even trap them in their dreams. In some games, it doesn't appear to know that it causes others to have nightmares. Despite being an event Pokémon, it is mentioned in the games outside of events. Appearing on the night of a full moon, Darkrai has the dangerous power to put humans to sleep and make them dream in order to gain energy. |
| Shaymin | A legendary Pokémon associated with flowers and nature. It lives in a secret garden known as the Flower Paradise, in flower patches, and avoids detection by curling up to look like a flowering plant. |
| Arceus | The supposed god of all Pokémon, who divided its powers in plates found across the region. Pokemon legend says that Arceus was born from an Egg in middle of nothingness, and then created the entire Pokemon world. |
Unova Region (Fifth Generation)Edit

| Victini | A legendary Pokémon said to bring victory to its trainer. It's rumored that Trainers with Victini always win, despite the type of encounter. It creates an unlimited supply of energy inside its body, which it shares with those who touch it. |
| Cobalion | One of the legendary musketeers. This legendary Pokemon battled against humans to protect Pokemon. Its personality is calm and composed. It has a body and heart of steel, and its glare is sufficient to make even unruly Pokemon obey it. |
| Terrakion | One of the legendary musketeers. This Pokemon came to the defense of other Pokemon that had lost thier homes in a war against humans. |
| Virizion | One of the legendary musketeers.This Pokemon fought humans in order to protect its friends, and guided lost Pokemon out of the forests. |
| Tornadus | One of the Kami trio. It is a Flying type. It fights with Thundurus. |
| Thundurus | One of the Kami trio. It is a Flying/Electric type. It fights with Tornadus. |
| Reshiram | One of the Tao trio and the mascot for Pokémon Black. It has a great rivalry with Zekrom. |
| Zekrom | One of the Tao trio and the mascot for Pokémon White. It has a great rivalry with Reshiram. |
| Landorus | One of the Kami trio. It is a Flying/Ground type, and the leader of the Kami trio. |
| Kyurem | One of the Tao trio. Its other forms are the mascot of Pokemon Black Version 2 and Pokemon White Version 2. Kyurem is said to be hollow, and leaks freezing cold energy from its body. |
| Keldeo | One of the legendary musketeers. The other members of the legendary musketeers saved it from a forest fire. Keldeo can shoot water from its hooves. It's an event Pokemon. |
| Meloetta |
A event Pokemon that can learn Relic Song. It has two forms. It is said that anyone who hears Meloetta's melodies will calm down. |
| Genesect |
An ancient Bug/Steel type Pokemon altered by Team Plasma.The light on it's back depends on the drive it's holding. An event Pokemon. |
