Notes on insects

  • You obviously need a net to catch insects.
  • Catching all of the insects, which are recorded in your inventory, will reward you with the golden net.
  • Insects that are in trees must be shaken out to be captured.
  • To catch a pill bug you must strike a rock with your shovel to make it come out of hiding.
  • Hidden insects such as mole crickets, insects in trees, and the pill bug can be found easily if a villager is looking at it.
  • To sneak up on insects without scaring them away you need to hold down the A button while you're walking with net out.
  • The Giant Beetle sells for the most (10,000 bells) and can only be found during the Summer from 11PM to 8AM.
  • Fireflies are out from 7PM to 4AM.
  • Bees take fast reflexes and speed to capture.
  • The Banded Dragonfly is the hardest to capture and requires speed to capture as well.
