Madden NFL 09 is an American football Wii and Nintendo DS video game and the 2009 edition of the popular Madden NFL series. The Wii version of the game is titled Madden NFL 09 All-Play, though not much is different compared to its Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3 counterparts. Madden NFL 09 and the All-Play version is part of the 20th anniversary of the Madden series. It is the last Madden NFL game to be released on the DS as well as the last game until Madden NFL 13 to be released on more than one console. A GameCube version was planned, but it was cancelled due to its predecessor being the last game released for the system the previous year as well as the system about to be discontinued. This is currently the best-selling Madden NFL game at over 4 million units.

Cover athlete[]

The retired cover athlete, Brett Favre, was revealed on April 24, 2008 via David Letterman. EA confirmed that, despite the fact that Brett had transferred to the New York Jets, he would wear his Packers jersey. However, on launch day, EA put downloadable covers of Favre on the internet that players could print off and place in the cover's jacket. The image of Brett on the Wii version of the game is different from every other version because of the All-Play title.

In October of 2008, EA announced that a breast cancer awareness edition of the game would be made available through Target.com and NHLShop.com. It includes include a removable pink ribbon and proceeds will be sent to Deanna Favre HOPE Foundation. October was decided as the month due to the fact that October is breast cancer awareness month.
