Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is a role-playing video game featuring turn-based combat similar to X-COM and elements of exploration.
The game features eight playable characters: Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Yoshi from the Mario franchise, and four Rabbids dressed as the former. The characters wield guns that shoot laser beams. The game features two-player local cooperative play.
Development and Release
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was developed by Ubisoft Paris and Ubisoft Milan using Ubisoft's proprietary Snowdrop game engine. Once, there was an idea for a Mario + Rabbids game on the Wii in 2010 developed by Ubisoft Paris.
It seemed to be a platformer game though it never got far. It was suggested Nintendo being strict with their intellectual properties denied them the opportunity to pitch the game
Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto was impressed by the prototype of a Mario and Rabbids crossover game that was presented to him by Ubisoft Milan's creative director Davide Soliani in 2014. That prototype was created in less than a month. Miyamoto felt the concept was easy to understand and that it was refreshing to see Mario placed in a genre of game that he had not anticipated. Development of the game was led under Soliani once their pitch was approved by Nintendo.
On October 16, 2017 it was announced that the game would recieve its first update and DLC as soon as October 17, 2017, this DLC should include new challenges and multiplayer maps.
In Spring 2018 the game is expected to receive another familiar playable character, Donkey Kong.

It received a score of 8 out of 10 from Russ Frushtick of Polygon. Dan Stapleton of IGN gave the game a 7.7 out of 10 (a "Good" rating). He praised the game's difficulty, animation, and "enemy variety", but criticized the rewards for completing puzzles and "the progression system".
