NHL 2K9 is a sports game (focused on ice hockey) for the Wii and is part of the NHL 2K series. It is licensed by the National Hockey League and its Player's Association.

The game has improved skating, checking and fighting engines than it's predecessors. The player is also able to control the Stanley Cup celebrations, as well as the Zamboni's during intermissions.

Commentators Randy Hahn, Drew Remenda and John Shrader of the San Jose Sharks supply the in-game play-by-play and analysis.

Swinging the Wii Remote indicates a pass or shot, while the Nunchuk is used for bodychecking.

As in the real-world sport of hockey, the object is to score more goals than the opposing team to win the game.

All 30 NHL teams appear in the game.
