Characters from the Mario series.

These are the main characters of various Nintendo franchises.

Mario series (including sub-franchises)[]

Character Information
Bowser The primary antagonist of the series, first appearing in Super Mario Bros. In almost every game in the series, he kidnaps Princess Peach.
Bowser Jr. Bowser's son, originally the youngest of his eight known ones before being named as his only child. He made his debut in Super Mario Sunshine.
Daisy Daisy first appeared in Super Mario Land where she was the damsel in distress. She was kidnapped by Tatanga and would later be rescued by Mario. She is the ruler of Sarassaland and later appeared in Mario spinoffs.
Diddy Kong Donkey Kong's primary sidekick and nephew in the series. He first appeared in Donkey Kong Country and went on to star in many other titles.
Donkey Kong The protagonist of the Donkey Kong series. He first appeared in Donkey Kong as the antagonist, though would later be a bit more friendly.
Luigi One of the protagonists of the Mario series, and Mario's twin brother. He first appeared in Mario Bros.. He has a few characteristics that contradict Mario's, such as being a bit cowardly, wearing green clothing, being taller and basically looking a bit different, among other features.
Mario The paramount protagonist of the series, and unarguably the most popular video game character. He's Nintendo's mascot and has been dubbed "Mr. Video Game". He first appeared in Donkey Kong on the arcades as Jumpman, though would later be known as Mario.
Princess Peach One of the more popular characters in the series. She first appeared in Super Mario Bros. where she was kidnapped by Bowser as she was the only one who was capable of reversing his black magic which he cast upon the land of the Mushroom Kingdom. She is the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom and the most notable damsel in distress in not only the series, but probably in all of gaming.
Rosalina The princess who appeared in Super Mario Galaxy. She wasn't a "damsel-in-distress", but was rather the operator of the Observatory and the "mother" of the Luma.
Toad The loyal servant of Princess Peach who does his best to protect her though he is often kidnapped as much as she is. Toad made his debut appearance in Super Mario Bros. as one of the Mushroom Retainers though his true debut was in Super Mario Bros. 2 as a playable character. Toad is also the name of the species that the character belongs to and they all appear very similar in appearance as the character Toad as well.
Toadette She is a female Toad who first appeared in the Nintendo GameCube video game Mario Kart: Double Dash‼. In the game, she was an unlockable character, with Toad as her partner.
Waluigi A greedy character who first appeared in Mario Tennis where he was stated to be Wario's younger brother[1]. Not much is known about the character's history.
Wario A character whose greediness gets him into a lot of trouble. He is unarguably one of the most famous characters in the series, and his first game appearance - Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, was just the starting point. He would later get his own series of video games that ranged from platformers to mini-game titles.
Yoshi The lovable dinosaur who first appeared in Super Mario World, where he would assist Mario and Luigi on their quest to save Dinosaur Island and the princess. His abilities were so popular that he got his own series of games.

The Legend of Zelda series[]

Character Information
Ganon(dorf) Ganon(dorf) is the primary antagonist of the series. He is the incarnation of the Demise's hatred, he lusts to have power over the world and attempts to do so through his quest to come in possession of all the Triforce shards. He is the bearer of the Triforce of Power.
Link The silent protagonist of the series. He first appeared in The Legend of Zelda. There are multiple incarnations of Link, though all of them take on a simple set of clothing which consists of a green tunic. In the series he has the bearer of the Triforce of Courage.
Princess Zelda Princess Zelda is the ruler over Hyrule and a descendant of the Goddess Hylia who reincarnated as the first Zelda. She has appeared in some form in every Zelda game, though like Link there are multiple incarnations of the character. She is the bearer of the Triforce of Wisdom.

Metroid series[]

Character Information
Metroid Prime/Dark Samus A highly mutated Metroid that was the source of Phazon on Tallon IV before merging with Samus' Phazon Suit and recreating a body from her DNA. The newly born Dark Samus then serves as the main antagonist of most of the Metroid Prime series.
Ridley Considered the paramount antagonist of the series. He first appeared in the original Metroid as a secondary boss, though would later become more popular and would take on the role as the final boss through many games. He resembles a dragon of some sort and is allied with the Space Pirates.
Samus Aran The female protagonist of the series. She's appeared in every Metroid game to-date as the playable character. She's guarded by powerful armor created by the Chozo, and is the most famous bounty hunter in the series.

Kirby series[]

Character Information
Bandana Waddle Dee A master spearman who originally served as Dedede's second in command. He then became part of Kirby's crew and is often considered as the fourth main character of the Kirby series, being one of the most recurrent character in the series and often being playable alongside Dedede and Meta Knight. Outside of his playable appearances, Bandana Waddle Dedede takes on a more supporting role and give useful items to Kirby when they meet.
King Dedede King Dedede is the rival of kirby and the self-proclaimed ruler of Dream Land. He was the main antagonist of the main game before being defeated by Kirby and proclaiming him as his rival. Dedede often tries to protect his kingdom from outside threat, which leads him to being possessed by some entity and forced to face Kirby in battle. When Dedede is not under the control of the main antagonist, he usually side with Kirby to defeat any threat to Dream Land's peace.
Kirby The pink star warrior of Dream Land. He's only eight inches tall, though he has an undeniable appetite for everything. Not only that, but he can also "copy" his opponent's abilities and is said to wield infinite power.
Meta Knight Meta Knight is a mysterious knight who appears to be from the same species as Kirby, he usually serves as Kirby's mentor and test him to know if he is powerful enough to defeat bigger threats. Like Dedede, he is often possessed by the enemy and is forced to fight Kirby against his will.

F-Zero series[]

Character Information
Captain Falcon The most notable racer in the series. He first appeared in F-Zero and has ever since been a popular choice among players.

Fire Emblem series[]

Character Information
Alear Protagonist and avatar in Fire Emblem Engage.
Byleth Protagonist and avatar in Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
Chrom The protagonist of Fire Emblem Awakening. He's Lucina's father and prince of Ylisse.
Corrin The protagonist and avatar of Fire Emblem Fates. He/she is a prince/princess of Nohr who discovers he was originally a prince/princess of Hoshido and is split between the conflict of the warring nations.
Ike The protagonist of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. He's a blue haired warrior who'll eventually become the commander of the Greil Mercenaries.
Lucina A future princess of Ylisse that returns to the past to prevent the rise of Grima.
Marth The protagonist of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem and the main representative of the series. He leads the war to save Archanea from the clutches of Medeus.
Robin The avatar for Fire Emblem: Awakening who helps lead the Shepherds as they protect Ylisse from its various enemies.
Roy The protagonist of Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade. He debuted in Super Smash Bros. Melee as one of Fire Emblem's first two representatives in Super Smash Bros., alongside Marth.

Star Fox series[]

Character Information
Andross The main antagonist of the series. He is a scientist that was exiled from Corneria for his morally questionable experiment and gathered an army to take over the Lylat system from Venom in retaliation and rule over it as emperor.
Falco Lombardi The ace pilot of the Star Fox team. He is seen as arrogant, but is also second in command.
Fox McCloud The protagonist of the series. He first appeared in Star Fox for the SNES, where he was the leader of the team.
Wolf O'Donnell Leader of the Star Wolf team and Fox's rival.

Pokémon series[]

Character Information
Ash Ketchum The initial protagonist of Pokémon the Series for 25 seasons. He was the Alolan Champion and Pokémon World Champion. In Pokémon Horizons: The Series, he was replaced by Liko and Roy.
Pikachu The world's most iconic Pokémon and the mascot of the series. An Electric-type. Pikachu is also Ash's main Pokémon. In Horizons, another Pikachu nicknamed Captain Pikachu appeared under the ownership of Friede.
Pokémon species Pokémon species are the magical creatures that inhabit the Pokémon world. Currently, there are a total of over 1,000 identified types of Pokémon species that can be obtained. Each Pokémon is categorized into a multitude of traits, including their type, color, weight, height, and so forth. Pokémon become stronger by battling other Pokémon and leveling up, sort of like how a character in a traditional RPG can change into a more powerful level. Most Pokémon can turn into new forms under special conditions, such as reaching a certain level or using a specific item on them, a process known as evolution.
Misty The Gym Leader of Cerulean City specializing on Water-types. In the anime, Misty traveled with Ash and Brock in the first five seasons and movies.
Brock The Gym Leader of Pewter City specializing on Rock-types. In the anime, Brock is Ash's longest-traveling companion.
Team Rocket Team Rocket is the villainous team in pursuit of evil and the exploitation of Pokémon based on Kanto and Johto. Their leader is Giovanni, who is also the Viridian City Gym Leader who specializes on Ground-types. A trio of Team Rocket field agents, Jessie, James, and a talking Meowth, followed Ash everywhere on his journey in order to steal Pikachu and other Pokémon that humiliated them.
Professor Oak Professor Samuel Oak is a Pokémon Professor who lives and works at his research lab in Pallet Town of the Kanto region. He concentrates on Pokémon and human relationships as a profession.
Red Red is the playable character in the First Pokémon Generation and their remakes. He is the final boss in the Johto games.
Blue Blue is the rival character and Champion in First Pokémon Generation and their remakes. He is the Gym Leader in the Johto games.
Liko and Roy The main protagonists Pokémon Horizons: The Series, the Pokémon anime's 26th season onwards, replacing Ash Ketchum. Liko is from the Paldea region, who wears a mysterious pendant, while Roy is from the Kanto region, who possesses a mysterious ancient Poké Ball.

Earthbound/Mother series[]

Character Information
Lucas The protagonist of Mother 3. He's a blond haired kid who slightly resembles the characters from the previous games.
Ness The protagonist of Earthbound. He resembles Ninten from Mother, though is actually a different character. His name is a reference to the SNES, the console the game was released on, as it is his name, just rearranged.
Ninten The protagonist of the first game in the series - Mother. His name is a shortened version of "Nintendo".

Pikmin series[]

Character Information
Alph One of the three protagonists of Pikmin 3. He is the engineer of the S.S Drake and admire Captain Charlie.
Captain Olimar The protagonist of the series. He first appeared in Pikmin where his ship crash landed on PNF-404. There, he found odd creatures called Pikmin who would help him rebuild his ship so that he could escape the planet.

Animal Crossing series[]

Character Information
Isabelle The mayor's assistant, introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
K.K. Slider The wayward musician that comes to town every Saturday.
Tom Nook The raccoon that runs the store in town.
Villager The playable character in the series.

Kid Icarus series[]

Character Information
Dark Pit A clone of pit created by Pandora's mirror of truth, he serves as an anti hero in Uprising.
Palutena Palutena is the Goddess of Light and the source of Pit's power, her role is to protect humanity from any potential threats.
Pit The protagonist of the series. He is the leader of Palutena's forces but is unable to fly by himself, the power of the light Goddess is what allows him to fly up to five minutes at a time.

Punch-Out series[]

Character Information
Little Mac The main character in the series. He's the smallest fighter, though with the help of Doc Louis he becomes the best.

Xenoblade series[]

Character Information
Shulk The protagonist of Xenoblade Chronicles, he is the wielder of the divine sword called the Monado and vow to use it against the Mechons who attacked his home.
Rex Rex is the main protagonist of Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
Pyra/Mythra/Pneuma Pyra and Mythra are the secondary protagonists of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. They are playable in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Noah Noah is one of the main protagonists of Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
Mio Mio is one of the main protagonists of Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
