The Ocarina of Time is a key item of the Nintendo 64 game, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It also appears in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. Early in the game, Link acquires an ocarina and learns a few songs. He acquires the Ocarina of Time later in the game.
The Ocarina of Time is a flute-like device used for playing various magical tunes.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The Ocarina of Time first appeared in the Nintendo 64 video game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Early on in the game, Link acquired the Fairy Ocarina from Saria. Eventually he would upgrade to the Ocarina of Time when the young Princess Zelda tossed it into the moat by Hyrule Castle Town after fleeing from Ganondorf. With the Ocarina of Time Link could gain access to the Sacred Realm. Various tunes can be played on the Ocarina of Time that have various effects including time travel, changing the weather, calling Epona and more.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
The Ocarina of Time appeared once again in the successor to Ocarina of Time, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. Skull Kid steals the ocarina from Link prior to the start of the game, but eventually he takes it back. With the ocarina, Link can once again perform various tunes with it that effect the game in crucial ways. Link cannot play the ocarina in his alternate forms (but instead will have different instruments).
Super Smash Bros. series
The Ocarina of Time made an appearance in Super Smash Bros. where Link is seen playing it in the Intro,and Super Smash Bros. Melee as a trophy. The trophy was collected through normal means and stated the following:
- "This ocarina, the treasure of the House of Hyrule, was entrusted to Link by Zelda when she fled from Ganondorf's insurrection. When used in conjunction with three Spiritual Stones, it opened the way to where the Master Sword rested. In Majora's Mask, it gave Link limited control over time, but it has other uses: it's fun to play as a musical instrument."
- When you're playing a note, moving the analogue stick up will raise its tone.
- When you're playing a note, moving the analogue stick down will lower its tone.
- When you're playing a note, the R button will raise it one semi-tone, making the note sharp
- The Z button will lower a note one semi-tone, making the note flat
- When you're playing a note, moving the analogue stick left or right adds vibrato to notes
