PKfire

PK Fire.

PK Fire (JP) (PSI Fire in EarthBound) is an offensive PSI move that appears in all three EarthBound games. PK Fire is realized in EarthBound Beginnings by Ana, in EarthBound by Paula, and in Mother 3 by Kumatora. PK Fire is usually effective on plantlike and ice enemies.

Lloyd's explosives in EarthBound Beginnings share effects with PK Fire. Bottle Rockets have the same effect as PK Fire α, Bombs are β, Flamethrowers are γ (and unlike the other 3 fire weapons, are reusable), and finally, Super Bombs are Ω, killing all enemies.

Super Smash Bros.[]

It is the Side Special Move that Ness and Lucas can perform in the Super Smash Bros. series, first appearing in Super Smash Bros. as Ness's Standard Special move. In later games, the move could be used by inputting  or + B. When executed, Ness or Lucas will shoot out a small lightning bolt that'll set their opponents in flames if it connects. If in mid-air, Ness will shoot the fire downwards while Lucas will always shoots it forward.

Custom Variations[]

PK Bonfire[]

PK Bonfire is one of Ness' Side Special Moves that can be used via customization. The attack doesn't travel as far, but lasts longer and in turn does more damage.

Strengths

  • Deals more damage
  • The flame pillar lasts longer making this more useful for trapping opponents easier.
  • More useful for combos and can flame multiple opponents.

Weaknesses

  • Less range
  • Slower
  • Can be absorbed

PK Fire Burst[]

PK Fire Burst is one of Ness' Side Special Moves that can be used via customization. Rather than leaving a lasting flame, this version deals one strong hit, dealing decent knockback and damage like Lucas. Strengths

  • Can destroy incoming opponent projectiles
  • Deals knockback
  • Damages other opponents caught in the flame

Weaknesses

  • Deals less damage
  • Cannot be used to attack grounded opponents from above
  • Leaves Ness open to attacks if used in mid-air
  • Doesn't deal repeated damage when it connects
  • Can't be used for combo set-ups
  • Can be absorbed

Trivia[]

  • There is a Michigan pop-folk band named after this move.
  • In EarthBound and Mother 3, this move is not realized by Ness and Lucas, but by Paula Polestar and Kumatora respectively. A possible explanation for this discrepancy is offered in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which states that Paula and Kumatora have taught each of them the technique for their appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series.
