Pak E. Derms are creatures found in the Nintendo 64 video game Yoshi's Story. They are, as their name implies, elephant inspired creatures. They are more obstacles than enemies since they don't attack Yoshi in any way. Rather, they walk around holding a large stop sign in their trunks, having only a pair of feet but no arms or hands to hold the sign with. They won't allow Yoshi, the game's protagonist, to pass by them, though likewise won't attack him either. Yoshi can, however, perform a ground pound next to one and they will topple over, giving Yoshi access to the next area. However, Yoshi must do this quickly, because Pak E. Derm gets back on his feet shortly after he is knocked over. Because they are the simplest enemy in the game, they appear only on the first level several times, and make no appearance in any other level.
In Super Smash Bros. Melee, they appear in the background of the Yoshi's Story Stage and were also a Trophy that the player could collect. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl they played a much smaller role as just a sticker. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, they can once again be seen in the background of the Yoshi’s Story stage, in addition to being a Spirit, which can be obtained through various means. The Spirit Battle takes place on the Yoshi’s Story stage, where Pak E. Derm is represented by a monochrome King Dedede, who begins the battle by tossing a Poké Ball containing an Alolan Exeggutor, representing the trademark stop sign. Meanwhile, the player’s jump power is reduced, making it much more difficult to pass the Exeggutor. When the Spirit for Pak E. Derm is equipped, projectiles are reflected when the user performs a perfect shield.
