The Phosbat is a member of the Aerodentia Family in Pikmin 3. It is an infant Vehemoth Phosbat who are generally found with their parents in dark caves. They can also be spawned by the Phosbat Pods found in these caves.

Behavior[]

The Phosbats are born from pods, they are even more vulnerable to light than their adult form and unlike them, they are vaporised if they are exposed to it for too long, if the pods are exposed to light, they will close to protect the Phosbats still incubating inside them. They are otherwise pretty slow and can be easily killed without trouble by a large group of Pikmin, they are themselves also often seen in groups to compensate for their weak letality. One point to note is that the Vehemoth Phosbat is fought alongside them, which make them more dangerous since they can more easily eat Pikmin when the captain are distracted by the huge flying beast.

Location[]

  • An infinite will spawn in the Distant Tundra as long as at least one Phosbat Pod is still active.

Descriptions[]

Alph's notes[]

  • "Structural flaw: photosensitivity / Weight: unknown / I've never seen a substance that completely dissipated under bright light before. Is it because it's a newborn and not yet fully formed? The front legs and wings are still a work in progress, but they make up for that with numbers. If you ever see something in a dark cave that looks like an egg, my advice is to destroy it while you still can."

Brittany's notes[]

  • "They're so cute when they're young! How can you say no to those little chirpy noises and big, wet eyes? It's a shame they grow into something so awful. It makes me wonder what the captain was like in his youth."

Charlie's notes[]

  • "This timid little guy was the first wild creature I met on this planet. I can't blame him for being scared, though. I freaked out a little when I saw those glowing mushrooms! Wait, no, forget that. How do you erase stuff on here?"

Louie's notes[]

  • "Perfect ingredient for hot pot night! Add to the broth when no one's looking for best results."

Olimar's notes[]

  • "The infant stage of the Vehemoth Phosbat has underdeveloped wings and cannot fly. It is sciophilous from birth to the point where even the low light of a common glowcap or a light bulb will cause it to vaporize. The chromatophore secretions which the adult Phosbat uses for camouflage are overwhelming to its fragile infant form and cause apoptosis in excessive amounts. My own lamp does not trigger this reaction, possibly because its light is the wrong wavelength."

Trivia[]

  • They are the first hostile creatures encountered in Pikmin 3.
