Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia is a Nintendo DS video game and a sequel to Pokémon Ranger, which was also released on the DS. It heavily focuses on Pokémon species from the fourth generation of titles, which primarily consists of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl and Pokémon Platinum. Not much has changed since the original; the basic premise is still retained and how you capture Pokémon isn't dramatically different. There are major improvements, however, which will likely cause fans of the original to be interested once more and those hesitant to purchase it initially to maybe consider giving it a go this time around.

Gameplay

There are major differences with this title and the original that considerably improve it. For one, while attempting to capture Pokémon by circling them with your stylus, you'll be allowed to momentarily lift the stylus and start circling again without having to start over, whereas this wasn't the case with the original. Another major improvement is the inclusion of 17 partner Pokémon that you can call into battle - one from each Pokémon type. These Pokémon include the following:

As you can see from the list above, the Pokémon that are included as partners are all from Diamond, Pearl and Platinum. Fan favorites such as Pikachu and Jigglypuff will thus not be included as partners, though will inevitably be included somewhere in the video game.
