Pom Pom resembles her male counterpart, Boom Boom, which appeared alongside her in the game. Pom Pom was originally dubbed Bam Bam by fans, only to be named otherwise by Nintendo. Pom Pom appears twice on her own and once with Boom Boom.
She is fought on a pink Airship, where you must dodge her boomerangs. Upon being hit, she will retreat into her shell and try to stomp Mario repeatedly. When hit 3 times, she is defeated and, just like Boom Boom, will drop 10 coins.
She returns as a boss in Super Mario 3D World. In this game she, just like Boom Boom, has new Ninja abilities. She has the ability to clone herself and the player will have to hit the right one. It's kind of similar to Ludwig's battle from New Super Mario bros. U. You can distinguish the real one from the fakes easily. The real one has a hair accesoiry and throws a different shuriken. The win conditions are the same as in Super Mario 3D Land.
