Project Sora was a first party Nintendo developer that was initiated in 2009 by Nintendo and Sora, Ltd. The company is 72% owned by Nintendo and 28% owned by Sora, Ltd. The studios' president is Masahiro Sakurai, creator of Kirby and Super Smash Bros. who became a freelance video game designer around the beginning of the Nintendo DS's life (though now, obviously, has his own company). So far their company has or will have around 30 employees. Being a first party company, all of the games that Project Sora creates will be released on Nintendo's platforms.
Their first and only title, Kid Icarus: Uprising on the Nintendo 3DS, was released in 2012. In a post-E3 2011 interview, it was revealed that Project Sora will begin work on two games in the Super Smash Bros. franchise for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. In July of 2012, Project Sora reaveled that they had close their doors, as the company had accomplished all of their goals with Kid Icarus: Uprising. Development for Super Smash Bos. was now going to be handled by Namco Bandai Games, with Sora Ltd and Nintendo supervising development.
