Ridge Racer DS is a Nintendo DS video game released within the launch window of the handheld. It was developed by Nintendo Software Technology in Redmond, Washington, and published by Namco in America and Europe, and Nintendo in Australia. The game was never released in Japan. The game is basically a remake of the Nintendo 64 video game Ridge Racer 64. New additions to the game include touch screen support and wireless capabilities for multiplayer.

Gameplay[]

The game is very similar to its Nintendo 64 counterpart. There are unfortunately no new levels, though there are plenty of new cars that are based off of Namco properties such as Pac-Man, Mappy, Galaga, Xevious, Dig Dug, and Galaxian, and Nintendo properties such as Mario, Shy Guy, Princess Peach, Luigi, Donkey Kong, and the Nintendo DS. Some of the music featured in the game wasn't present in the Nintendo 64 version, and similarly to the vehicles mentioned above are Nintendo and Namco themed (Galaga Pac Jam and Mushroom Kingdom II).

The game makes heavy use of the Nintendo DS's touch screen. The player can opt for a traditional control scheme, though if they desire they can use the steering wheel on the touch screen and turn it using the stylus. As expected, all of the menus are navigated via the stylus or with the d-pad and a button.
