The Rito are a species in The Legend of Zelda series. They debuted in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and have yet to appear in any other video game as of yet. They're a bird like species who live on Dragon Roost Island. In the beginning of their life, they're not capable of flying, though will in time be able to. When they reach a certain age, the island's guardian Valoo will give them the wings, though prior to this they used the Grappling Hook.

The most popular member of the species, Medli, is a playable character later on in the game.

They are also said to have evolved from the Zoras after Hyrule was flooded.
