Sheik is a character in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, who is an alter ego of Zelda. In the game, Zelda passes herself off as a Sheikah known as "Sheik" to hide from Ganondorf. With voice muffled and face concealed, as well as wearing a form-fitting blue suit with the red Sheikah eye in the center, the character is essentially unrecognizable as Zelda.

Sheik plays the harp and teaches Link new songs to help him on his quest. When Link arrives at the Temple of Time near the end of the game, Sheik uses the Triforce of Wisdom and reverts to Zelda. It is claimed by the character's trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee that she uses her magical skills to change her skin tone, hair length, eye color, and clothing. In addition, Sheik is voiced by a female voice actor in Ocarina of Time, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. However, when Link encounters Princess Ruto in the Water Temple, she asks Link to thank Sheik for saving her, referring to Sheik as "him", and in the non-canon manga for Ocarina of Time suggests that Zelda used the Triforce of Wisdom to actually become male while disguised as Sheik, and sealing away the consciousness of Zelda. The game itself has no clear explanation for the transformation.

Ocarina of Time[]

Sheik is introduced when Link skips ahead seven years into the future. Using her wisdom, she tells him about beings called Sages, each who dwell in a different area in Hyrule, a deep forest, high mountain, vast lake, the house of the dead, and inside the goddess of the sand. Calling Link the "Hero of Time" Sheik knows that they will be able to undo all of the destruction Ganondorf unleashed, which is a legend passed down by her race, the Sheika. Calling herself the "Survivor of the Sheika", she believes Link really is the Hero of Time and instructs him to go to the five temples to awaken the sages. The first temple Link goes to is the Forest Temple, where his childhood friend Saria is located, who Sheik knows is one of the Sages. She tells him that because he cannot yet enter the temple, he needs to go the Kakariko Village to obtain another skill.

When Link makes it to Saria's hideout, but she isn't there, Sheik appears and teaches him the Minuet of Forest with her Harp, then vanishes with a Deku Nut. After he returns to the Temple of Time after saving Saria, Sheik informs Link that he will have to place the Master Sword back into the pedestal to return to his original time. She then teaches him the Prelude of Light, which will warp him to the temple. Sheik appears later in the Death Mountain Crater, where she plays the Bolero of Fire, a song that is dedicated to the power of the heart. She meets him again in the Ice Cavern area to tell him that the Zoras are trapped under a think sheet of ice, which was created by an evil monster. She managed to rescue Princess Ruto off-screen, but the princess fled to the Water Temple, which is where the monster is located. She teaches him the Serenade of Water, then vanishes.

Link meets Sheik again when he returns to find Kakariko Village on fire. Near the well, a strange force flungs her far, and soon harms Link too. The spirit of a shadow came out of the well even tough Impa, one of the Sages, tried sealing it down there. Knowing that Impa will be in danger in the Shadow Temple, Sheik teaches Link the Nocturne of Shadow, which leads him into the Shadow Temple. After Link arrives at the Spirit Temple, Sheik shows up again and plays the Requiem of Spirit.

After Link clears all of the Temples, and returns to the Temple of Time, Sheik appears one last time and approves of Link's heroic actions of awakening all six sages, and he is now ready to face Ganondorf. She tells him of another legend passed down by the Sheikas; the Sacred Realm is where the legendary Triforce rests, and it contains three forces: Power, Wisdom and Courage. If a holder of the sacred triangle has each shard in balance, they will gain the True Force, but if theor heart isn't at balance, the Triforce will separate into each shard. One part will remain with the holder, with the part they believe most in, and others chosen will bear the Triforce marks on their hands.

The legend came true when Ganondorf entered the Temple and touched the Triforce, but he only gained the Triforce of Power, and so he decided to look for other chosen ones with the other two Triforce parts. Sheik informs Link that he is the holder of the Triforce of Courage, and the holder of the Triforce of Wisdom is the Seventh Sage; Sheik reveals the Triforce on her hand and transforms into Zelda, who Sheik was revealed to be the entire time. Zelda tells him that she had to be disguised as a Sheika to hide from Ganondorf.

Twilight Princess[]

Although she doesn't actually appear in Twilight Princess, Sheik still has existing concept art that was created for the game, meaning that she was intended to appear.

Hyrule Warriors[]

After a long absence in her franchise, Sheik makes a non-canon return in Hyrule Warriors, in which she plays on her harp to unleash different elemental attacks, which are all based on the songs she played for Link.

Super Smash Bros.[]

Sheik appears in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, in which Zelda can change into Sheik as one of her abilities. Because of her lack of a moveset from her home game, a majority of Sheik's moves are original to Smash Bros.. According to the "Smash Bros. DOJO!!", Sheik's new design in Brawl is based on her model created for consideration in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

With Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U, Sheik is a separate character from Zelda. In addition, her moveset has been revamped.

Sheik's default outfit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is based on the Stealth Chest Guard and Stealth Tights from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, even though she doesn't appear in that game.

Attacks[]

Sheik is a speedy fighter though lacking in power. Her moves can easily combo the opponents into high percentages though.

  • Neutral Special: Needle Storm
  • Side Special: Chain (Melee/Brawl), Burst Grenade (3DS/Wii U)
  • Up Special: Vanish
  • Down Special: Transform (Melee/Brawl), Bouncing Fish (3DS/Wii U)
  • Final Smash: Light Arrow (Brawl/3DS/Wii U) Sheikah Dance (Ultimate)
