Shine Sprites are key items in the GameCube game, Super Mario Sunshine. Mario had to collect these to complete the game. There are a total of 120 Shine Sprites available for collection within the game, and they are Isle Delfino's source of energy and are very important to the island's way of life. They also appear in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and are used to upgrade Mario's partners. In Mario Kart: Double Dash‼ and Mario Kart DS they appeared in the Battle Minigame Shine runners (likely replacing Coin Runners) But was replaced by coin runners in Mario Kart Wii for unknown reasons.
