(known as Super Mario Strikers in Europe and Australia) is a soccer video game that was released exclusively for the Mario Smash Football Nintendo GameCube. The game was created in the vein of other Mario sports games such as and Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour , and is loosely based on Mario Power Tennis , another soccer video game. In terms of U.S. releases, it is the last Sega Soccer Slam game to be released for the GameCube. The sequel for this game called Mario was released for the Mario Strikers Charged Wii.
In the game, the player must pick one of nine playable captains, and following this must pick a group of sidekicks which consists of
Toad, Koopa Troopa, Birdo and Hammer Bros. The goalie for each team is a Kritter from the series. Playable characters include Donkey Kong Country Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Princess Peach, Wario, Waluigi, Princess Daisy and the Super Team.
The game didn't fair as well as other
Mario sports titles such as and Mario Tennis , though did receive moderate review scores within the 70's range. Critics argued about the scarcity of options which were present in the aforementioned titles.
