Super Mario Strikers is a soccer game for the Nintendo GameCube featuring characters from the Mario World. The game was released in 2005 and has since spawned a sequel for the Wii called Mario Strikers Charged which featured competitive online play. The game is known as the last Mario video game to be released on the GameCube to make way for the extremely popular Wii video game console.

[edit] Gameplay

In the game, the player must pick one of nine playable captains, and following this must pick a group of sidekicks which consists of Toad, Koopa Troopa, Birdo and Hammer Brothers. The goalie for each team is a Kritter from the Donkey Kong Country series. Playable characters include Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Princess Peach, Wario, Waluigi, Princess Daisy and the Super Team.

[edit] Reception

The game didn't fair as well as other Mario sports titles such as Mario Tennis and Mario Golf, though did receive moderate review scores within the 70's range. Critics argued about the scarcity of options which were present in the aforementioned titles.
