Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo is a video game for the Game Boy Advance that incorporates characters from Street Fighter II and Darkstalkers into a single, puzzle title.

Gameplay[]

In the game, the goal is to fuse similarly colored blocks together. If you incorporate a Crash Gem with the normal ones, then a bunch of blocks will be sent to the opposing sides' board. The game features many different modes. In arcade mode, you'll have to take on eight characters, each ones becoming more progressively challenging than the previous one. In the Street Puzzles mode, you'll have to face off against a very hard opponent, though doing so will earn you valuable rewards such as new characters or modes. Arguably the most challenging mode is Master Arcade, which will pit the player against insanely hard opponents.

As one could expect, this game works brilliantly when hooked up to another owner of the game. Multiplayer works almost identically to the single player mode - the only difference is that the AI will be replaced by real life person. Interestingly, you can also play on a single GBA, with one character using the left side of the unit and the other using the right side with a simplified control scheme.

Reception[]

The game was welcomed to mixed reactions. Even the writers of Nintendo Power couldn't seem to agree on the score for the game, with one (George S.) giving it a 4.5/5 and another (Chris S.) giving it a measly 2/5. Whoever wrote the actual review for the game mentioned that it deserved to be placed at the top of the puzzle matching game "heap", being included with Pokémon Puzzle League - certainly a bold claim.
