Super Smash Bros. Brawl, known in Japan as Dairantō Smash Brothers X (Japanese: 大乱闘 スマッシュ ブラザーズ X, Dairantō Sumasshu Burazāzu Ekkusu, roughly "Great Melee Smash Brothers X"), is a game that was released for the Wii in 2008. It is a fighting game that features characters from Nintendo game franchises and third party franchises. It is the third game in the series to be released, and is developed by Sora Ltd., and published by Nintendo.


Character Selection - Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Fans of Super Smash Bros. Melee will be immensely familiar with the gameplay featured in Brawl. Essentially, it features the same gameplay attributes as the previous games in the series, though with major updates. Brawl, as its name implies, is a fighting game that features a slew of popular (or sometimes negligible) Nintendo characters, stages, themes, and more. Contradictory to most fighting games, the health bar goes up rather than down, meaning there is no really telling when your opponent will be defeated. To defeat, or KO (knock out) your enemy, though, you'll have to knock them off the edge rather than fully depleting their energy.

Once you hit your opponent, his or her damage meter percentage starts to go up. The farther up it is, the farther they'll soar when attacked. If they have a high damage percentage on their meter like 123% (the max is 999%), then the chances that they'll fly off the edge are tremendous. If the meter isn't too high, then they have a good chance of staying on the platform. Performing smash attacks when an adversary's damage meter is far up will result in an almost instant K.O. depending on the circumstances.

Once your character starts to fall off the edge, you'll oftentimes have to jump back by using your double and triple jump. Sometimes this won't work, however, usually when you're too far away to do so.

When a character does fall off an edge, then he or she will lose a stock when in Stock Match, or lose a point in Time Match (the former if you're playing on stock mode and the latter if you're playing on time mode). If you lose all of your lives, then you'll be removed from the current battle, and if you have the least amount of points by the end of the engagement, then you'll also lose. However, if the result is contrary to that, then you'll ultimately win the fight. If you were the first one to lose all your lives then you'll end up in 4th place in the results, if you were the second person to be dead in the match then you'll be 3rd place, if you were close to winning or at least the third person to be dead then you'll be 2nd place. If you kill every opponent in the match then you'll win.

A new gameplay mechanic are Final Smashes. To perform a Final Smash, your character will have to come into possession of the Smash Ball by attacking it, which will appear throughout the battle. Once he or she does so, pressing the B button will execute an attack that will cause colossal damage to whomever was attacked. Each character has a different final smash. For example, if Mario obtains a Smash Ball, his body will be engulfed in flames, and he'll rapidly shoot giant fireballs across the whole stage to perform Mario Finale, while Sonic will turn into his alternate form known as Super Sonic.

The development team has implemented new techniques in Brawl, including "moving and shooting", "footstool jump", and "gliding". In previous Super Smash Bros. video games, you'd have to stop moving if you wished to use your shooting items against your opponents. This time around, you'll not only be able to move, jump and what-not while shooting, but you'll also be able to aim your shots as well. To perform the footstool jump, you'll have to, at the right time, press the jump button right before you land on one of your opponents to launch off of them. Gliding will allow certain characters to, as its name implies, glide in the air. Characters that are known to glide are Meta Knight, Charizard and Pit.

Subspace Emissary

Super Smash Bros. Brawl features a new single-player adventure mode called the Subspace Emissary. Sakurai stated that although the past games featured a large multiplayer mode, they've never created an extensive single-player adventure. This time, the developers have included a plot-line that features the histories of the many fighters in Brawl. The Subspace Emissary will also include many new diverse characters, enemies, and levels that will each play a part in the adventure.

Stage selection is done via a map screen, which also allows players to select their difficulty (Easy, Normal, Hard, Very Hard, Intense) and determine if you want two-player co-op play. Before the beginning of each stage, the player picks a team of allied characters that he or she would like to use to complete that particular level. Each stage has a fixed amount of lives that one can lose before the game is lost.

In-Game Structure

As you go through the game, your damage percentage will be displayed at the bottom of the screen for each player, just like in multiplayer battles. At the left side of the screen, a bar showing what seems to be your lives is displayed. A feature that was not present in Melee is that enemies now have health. As you fight them, their own health bars will be displayed at the top of the screen. More than one health bar may appear if you are fighting multiple enemies at once.


The Subspace Emissary supports two-player co-op. When playing cooperatively, the two players share the same amount of lives. If player one is on his or her last life, and dies, but player two is still alive, the game is still over. Within stages, the game's camera follows player one, and so it is player two's responsibility to keep up with player one. If the two become separated, player two may return to player one's location with the Space Jump technique, as in Kirby Super Star.

The World

The Subspace Emissary introduces players to the true world of Smash Bros. This world is composed of a wide variety of terrain ranging from vast forests and grasslands to deep caverns and large deserts. The most notable structure is the enormous stadium that hovers over the land. It was the major place of all battles, until the Subspace invasion began. During this invasion, the entire stadium, along with any potential visitors, were engulfed in a huge Subspace Bomb.

The Storyline


In beginning, most teams consisted of only two characters, though as the game progressed, they merged. The following are the teams before they all merge in Subspace.

At a Stadium up in the sky, Peach and Zelda watch as the Mario and Kirby trophies fall from the sky. They are freed from the trophies but then battle each other.

Meanwhile, Pit, who is also in the sky, is watching Mario and Kirby battle at the Midair Stadium.

Mario/Kirby defeats Kirby/Mario and they are turned into a Trophy. Mario/Kirby then free Kirby/Mario as he/he gets up.

Mario and Kirby make a Team together but they are invaded by Halberd who drops Shadow Clones making the Subspace Army invading the Stadium. Peach and Zelda go help out Mario and Kirby to defeat the enemies.

After defeating the Enemies, the Ancient Minister arrives and drops a Subspace Bomb onto the Stadium. Mario checks what the thing is but is knocked out by a cannon ball. Then as Kirby turns around, he sees Peach and Zelda captured by Petey Piranha.

After Kirby defeats Petey, he rescues Peach/Zelda with him. Wario arrives and uses the Dark Cannon to turn Zelda/Peach into a Trophy and takes the Trophy with him. As the bomb explodes, Kirby and Peach/Zelda fly with him in his Star.

In the Sky, Pit sees the Midair Stadium absorb into the Subspace World and asks Palutena for the Bow. Pit then flies off the sky.

When Pit arrives, he sees Halberd who drops more Shadow Clones. Pit splits his bow and fights off the Army.

Pit arrives on land again and sees a Trophy. When he turns the Trophy into a human, he finds out the human was Mario, who he saw in Midair Stadium. Mario and Pit team up and together fly through the Sky.

Mario and Pit again land and see a ship chasing Halberd.

Meanwhile, back in another place of the Sky, the Halberd is now chasing Kirby and Peach/Zelda. They crash into the Halberd and fly in the sky.

After they land back on Halberd, the same ship Mario and Pit saw is battling Halberd but is knocked down. The ship almost crashes to Kirby and Peach/Zelda making them fall off the ship.

Meanwhile in the Jungle, a group of Goombas, Koopas, and Bullet Bills are stealing the Bananas. Donkey Kong roars and sees the Stolen Bananas. A Goomba then blasts some Bullet Bills and Diddy shoots them with his Peanut Popgun. Diddy Kong then shoots another one which explodes. Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong then jump into the Jungle.

When they retrieve the Stolen Bananas, Bowser confronts the Monkeys. Diddy goes to defend Donkey Kong but Bowser takes out his Dark Cannon and prepares to turn Diddy Kong into another trophy. DK finds out and blasts Diddy away but is shot and turned into a Trophy instead. Bowser then takes the Trophy.

In the Plains, Mario and Pit are chasing after the Ancient Minister but fail to catch him before he escapes.

Back at the Lake, Diddy is trying to find DK but finds a broken ship. He heads to it but Rayquaza blocks his path and captures him. Fox then jumps out of the ship and stuns Rayquaza freeing Diddy. Rayquaza rises once more and they defeat him again.

After defeating Rayquaza, Fox senses that his mission is done and leaves. Diddy tells him about DK but he ignores him and leaves instead. Diddy then forces fox to come along by dragging him along with him.

After confronting and defeating Shadow Bowser, they realize the Bowser was fake and he is trying to shoot Diddy and Fox with the Dark Cannon. Diddy tries to confront Bowser but is dragged by Fox and he jumps into the Jungle again.

In the Ruined Zoo, Lucas is walking and is scared of the Subspace Army. The Great Pig King Statue chases Lucas trying to squish him.

After about 5 minutes after chasing him, Lucas trips and cannot get back up. When the Statue is about to step on him, Ness knocks the Statue down. The Statue rises again and Ness destroys him only finding out that Porky was inside the Statue. Lucas and Ness then confront Porky.

After defeating Porky, they find Wario who is trying to turn Ness into a Trophy with his Dark Cannon. He shoots several times but Ness dodges so he turns and shoots Lucas. Ness who finds out pushes Lucas away from getting hit but gets hit himself. Wario then kidnaps the Ness Trophy and laughs while Lucas runs away. Lucas then runs into Pokémon Trainer who is about to confront the Subspace Army with his Pokémon, Squirtle. Lucas then joins him.

After defeating the Army, the Pokémon Trainer leaves with Squirtle. Lucas realizes he needs help and comes with Pokémon Trainer.

As Marth sees the Subspace Bomb explode near the castle, he gets Revenge on the Ancient Minister and glows his sword in the sky.

When Marth nears the Subspace Bomb, Meta Knight duels him until a group of Subspace Army-creatures arrive. They then team up to battle the Army.

After clearing the Army, they chase the Ancient Minister. Marth dolphin slashes but misses and Meta Knight tries do the same but the Ancient Minister shoots laser onto his wings. Ike then destroys the Bomb and sends the Ancient Minister flying. They then again battle the Army.

After running to a cliff, they see Ancient Minister flying away.

On a Grass Land, a Waddle Dee is walking pass Luigi and he gets scared. After getting too close to a Penguin, the Penguin uses his hammer to turn Luigi into a Trophy. The Penguin reveals to be King Dedede and jumps. Wario then rides on his Trophy Car with Trophies Zelda/Peach and Ness. He sees the Luigi Trophy and gets it while the Waddle Dees attack him sending the Luigi Trophy into his Trophy Car. King Dedede then takes the Trophy Car and rides it away while the Waddle Dees follow. Wario then yells at them for stealing his car.

Then later in the Forest, Link draws the Master Sword and meets the familiar dinosaur named Yoshi and they together team up to battle the Subspace Army when the Halberd drops Shadow Clones.

After chasing the Halberd, they stop chasing him and go to another direction.

A Cardboard is sitting inside the Battleship Halberd.

Zero Suit Samus sneaks into a Facility and prepares to battle.

Zero Suit Samus arrives inside a Room to see if enemies are there but finds a machine electrocuting Pikachu. She destroys the Machine and frees Pikachu, therefore setting off alarms, and Robs arrive to destroy her.

They arrive inside another room later, and Zero Suit Samus finds out her suit is inside a cryogenic-like room inside the Facility some where.

Kirby then runs away leaving Peach/Zelda alone. Bowser then shoots her with the Dark Cannon turning her into a trophy. The fake Bowser dissolves into Shadow Clones and turns Peach/Zelda into Fake Peach/Zelda.

Mario/Link and Pit/Yoshi is running away in the Lake Shore while the fake Peach/Zelda is about to shoot them with the Dark Cannon. Link/Pit destroy the Cannon and Yoshi/Mario joins to confront the fake Peach/Zelda.

When Mario/Link find out that Link/Mario and Yoshi/Pit defeat Fake Peach/Zelda after they dissolve into Shadow Bugs, Link/Mario sees Mario/Link trying to defeat him. Yoshi/Pit then join the battle to confront Mario/Link and Pit/Yoshi.

After Link/Mario and Yoshi/Pit defeats Mario/Link and Pit/Yoshi, King Dedede arrives and Link/Mario see the real Zelda/Mario as a Trophy. King Dedede collects the Link/Mario and Yoshi/Pit trophies but Kirby frees them, they then follow him.

Mario, Kirby, Link, Pit, and Yoshi then go inside a Cave.

Kirby discovers King Dedede's Castle.

Ganondorf orders Bowser and his Goombas, Koopas, and Hammer Bros to attack King Dedede.

Later before entering the Ruins, Pokemon Trainer and Lucas set out a mission to collect the Trainer's 2 missing Pokemon, Charizard and Ivysaur.

Right before entering the Ruins, Wario blocks the Path and Lucas recognizes him and gets revenge with Squirtle and Pokémon Trainer's help.

After defeating Wario, Wario is turned to a Trophy. Lucas then worries about Ness and wonders if he is inside the Ruins.

Meanwhile inside the King Dedede Castle, King Dedede is pinning badges on the Trophies that he has. He pins it on Ness's chest, Luigi's nose, and accidentally places it in his sleeve. He then places it on Zelda/Peach's Shoulder/Chest but Bowser turns him into a Trophy by knocking him down. Bowser then orders his minions to get the Zelda/Peach Trophy from the King Dedede Trophy.

Inside the Caves, Mario, Link, Yoshi, Pit, and Kirby discover what has happened at King Dedede's castle. They then explore more.

After exiting the Castle, the Team see Bowser running away with the Zelda/Peach trophy. Mario then attacks him when Pit shoots an arrow at him as he dodges making the Badge fall off of Zelda/Peach. Bowser then rides the Koopa Clown Car and puts the Peach and the Zelda Trophy inside Halberd. Link and Yoshi find the same ship they were chasing before while Kirby swallows the King Dedede badge.

The Ancient Minister then drops another Subspace Bomb near King Dedede's castle and explodes taking the Castle into Subspace.

Inside the Ruins, Pokemon Trainer and Lucas have found Ivysaur and continues to find Charizard until they find out he is not a trophy instead he is being controlled by the Subspace Army. He then battles Pokemon Trainer and Lucas but they defeat him and becomes Pokemon Trainer's Pokemon again. They then walk to the Ruined Hall.

At the Wilds, right outside the Ruins, Galleom reveals his true form and flies toward the heroes. The heroes, Ike, Marth, and Meta Knight, jump off the cliff and see what the Subspace Robot is doing.

When they arrive near him, Galleom reveals he is dangerous and an enemy and has come to destroy the World of Trophies. The Heroes (Warriors) then battle him.

After the Warriors defeat him, he jumps down all the way into the Ruins and Ike, Marth, Meta Knight sense Danger there.

Inside the Ruined Hall, Galleom arrives and almost crushes Lucas and Pokemon Trainer. Lucas and Pokemon Trainer then battle the Galleom.

After defeating him, Galleom is about to be destroyed and he is weak so he reveals his true intentions that he was a trap the whole time, trying to take Lucas, Pokemon Trainer, and the Warriors into Subspace by showing that he has a Subspace Bomb which will explode in 15 Seconds. He flies off back into the Wilds but Lucas destroys him and the Subspace Bomb explodes. Meta Knight rescues Lucas and Pokemon Trainer and they all become a Team.

After the Team leaves, another Team arrives. The Ancient Minister is seeing a very strange Subspace Bomb until someone shoots an arrow. Mario, Link, Pit, Kirby, and Yoshi go confront him.

Mario and Link chase the Ancient Minister and dodge as he shoots laser out. They are then stopped by 2 Robs. The Ancient Minister plans to launch another bomb in the wilds but is stopped by a Rob. The Ancient Minister destroys the Rob and drops the bomb leaving 3 minutes before it explodes. Mario and Pit try to stop 2 Robs from launching the bomb but are taken away by another 2 Robs. They then escape right when the Bombs explode when the Robs are sucked into Subspace. Mario rides on Yoshi while he runs on his top speed while Link and Pit hold on as Kirby drives the Dream Star to escape Subspace.

While Diddy Kong is walking with Fox, someone uses the Dark Cannon and turns Diddy Kong to a Trophy. Fox finds out it was Bowser, the same person who confronted them earlier. Bowser attempts to do the same to Fox but misses. He then orders Shadow Clones to cover Diddy Kong and make a Shadow Diddy Kong. The Shadow Diddy Kong then attempts to shoot Peanuts at Fox. Bowser tries to do the same again but the Fox Ship passes and Falco confronts Bowser and destroys the Dark Cannon. Bowser then flies away in his Koopa Clown Car while Fox and Falco watch as the Shadow Diddy Kong becomes bigger. Fox then frees Diddy Kong from his Trophy Petrification but is frightened once he sees the Giant Shadow Diddy Kong. They then confront him.

After defeating him, he dissolves into Shadow Bugs, Falco does the same thing as Fox does (in Stage 6: The Lake) while Fox watches Falco being dragged by Diddy Kong.

When Diddy Kong finds Donkey Kong's trophy locked up and guarded by Primids, Diddy Kong yells until he sees the Fox Ship.

Meanwhile inside the Research Facility, Pikachu and Zero Suit Samus find the Samus Suit but they are trapped when 2 Shadow-like Samuses in their Suits prepare to battle Pikachu and Zero Suit Samus.

After defeating the Shadow Samus clones, Robs find out about Zero Suit Samus but are destroyed when Samus puts on her suit and now she is in full power and has teamed up with Pikachu.

While walking in the Facility, Samus is kidnapped by Ridley and she is crushed. Pikachu saves her by electrocuting Ridley. She then drops down with Ridley, both are hurt. Samus and Pikachu battle Ridley.

After defeating the Dragon (Ridley), they exit the Facility and see Robs carrying Subspace Bombs to the Subspace Bomb Factory. Samus and Pikachu then prepare to enter the main Factory.

Outside the Ruins, the Pikmins are dancing on a Rob. The robs then kill the Pikmins while more Pikmins are with their leader, Olimar. One pikmin tells Olimar about a car coming and he sees Captain Falcon driving the car and he kills the Rob. He then accidentally kills all the Pikmins but one (the one who told Olimar about Captain Falcon's car).

The Fox Ship drops Diddy Kong on the Floating Platform to free Donkey Kong but before that, he kills the set of Primids on the Platform with his Peanuts. He then lands safely and frees Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong then destroys the Lock. Captain Falcon and Olimar watch and jump onto the Floating Platform to assist Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. A whole army set of subspace creatures jump on the ship's platform and they prepare to battle the heroes.

After defeating the set, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong dance as they enter the Subspace Bomb Factory.

On the bottom of the Glacial Peak, Marth, Ike, Meta Knight, Lucas, and Pokemon Trainer watch as Corneria battles Halberd. Meta Knight then flies up the Glacial Peak and he passes by the Ice Climbers who are jumping up the Glacial Peak. The Ice Climbers then see his speed, seemingly jealous, and race Meta Knight.

After Meta Knight and Ice Climbers arrive to the top, Meta Knight forces somebody to fight him. Lucario then sits on top of another mountain and jumps on the Glacial Peak and battles Meta Knight.

After Meta Knight/Lucario defeats Lucario/Meta Knight, Meta Knight/Lucario frees Lucario/Meta Knight from the Trophy Petrification.

After the battle, Meta Knight and Lucario decide to team up. The Halberd holds the Corneria and destroys it after crashing the Corneria into the Glacial Peak. The Ice Climbers fall off the mountain while Meta Knight and Lucario enter the Halberd.

After the Ice Climbers land, Shadow Clones form the Subspace Army and Marth, Ike, Ice Climbers, Pokemon Trainer, and Lucas are not enough. Mario, Link, Yoshi, Pit, and Kirby jump off the cliff into the Canyon to battle and defeat the Subspace Army.

Meanwhile, inside Halberd, Solid Snake lifts up the Cardboard Box and reveals himself and prepares for a Mission.

Inside another room, Snake decides to hide from people and see Meta Knight and Lucario coming. When they pass by, they think it is strange that a box is there. Lucario uses aura vision to see Snake. He lifts up the Cardboard Box and finds him. Snake prepares to battle them until Lucario convinces him to join them. Snake joins and finds danger on the other direction. They then prepare another Mission.

Inside another room, the Peach and Zelda trophies are locked up in a cage. Shadow Clones make the copy and become the Shadow Peach and the Shadow Zelda. Snake, Lucario, and Meta Knight then prepare to battle them.

After defeating them, they free the cage and free Peach and Zelda. Snake tells them to stay behind the Gate and they listen to him as the Gate closes.

When the Gate opens, Zelda has transformed into Sheik (however, Sheik can transform back to Zelda during the level & the next one). Sheik and Peach go to the Exterior of Halberd and prepare for another Mission.

When they are at the Bridge, the Fox Ship is battling Halberd again. Fox accidentally aims towards Peach. Sheik then defeats one member from the Star Ship, Fox and they land on the Bridge. Fox and Sheik prepare to battle again until Peach gives them some tea to calm them down.

Inside the Control Room, Meta Knight, Snake, and Lucario find all of Shadow Mr. Game and Watches driving revealing why Halberd has a Red Sky wherever it goes. They defeat the Shadow Mr. Game and Watches while they all turn into one of the Subspace Robots, Duon. Snake and Lucario arrive to confront him. Falco jumps out of the Fox Ship and confronts Duon as well.

After defeating Duon, the robot turns into a Mr. Game and Watch Trophy, Fox prepares to shoot it while Mr. Game and Watch is freed by Peach. Meta Knight starts driving the Ship making the Red Sky disappear, turning the Halberd into a ship united with the good forces.

Inside the Subspace Bomb Factory, the Ancient Minister detects Samus and Pikachu as they run away from Robs.

After arriving in the Room where all the Bombs are, Samus and Pikachu prepare to battle Ancient Minister but he refuses.

Donkey Kong then breaks a gate and he, Diddy Kong, Captain Falcon, and Olimar arrive in the same room Pikachu and Samus are. The Ganondorf telegram makes the Robs work for him and makes them initiate bombs inside the subspace factory against their will. when the Ancient Minister tries to revert the Robs, Ganondorf makes the Robs burn the Ancient Minister, killing him. Then, he sends the Subspace Army to destroy the 6 Heroes. The Ancient Minister then shoots out laser beams, destroying the Subspace Army. he disarms his design and reveals to be the original R.O.B. R.O.B. and the 6 Heroes battle the Subspace Army.

After defeating them, R.O.B. makes all the other Robs to work for him and they open the bombs and have 3 minutes left. Captain Falcon times it and tells everyone to jump off the edge.

1 Minute after jumping, Captain Falcon calls his ship and everybody lands there. Then Meta Ridley (now in Metal Armor) decides to chase the ship and battle the 7 Heroes.

They defeat Meta Ridley and escape just as the Bomb explodes with nuclear power.

Mario, Marth, Link, Ice Climbers, Yoshi, Ike, Pit, Lucas, Kirby, and Pokemon Trainer watch as the Bomb explodes and as well as Halberd and Captain Falcon's ship arriving.

Ganondorf and Bowser order the Gundoom Ship to make another Bomb that can be fired out of lasers now. They then realize Halberd coming and they order the Gundoom to shoot out missiles at Halberd. One of the missiles, strike Halberd in the Bow destroying Halberd. Then all the ships, rockets, and flying vehicles launch out of Halberd and dodge a crazy frenzy of firepower, then entering the bomb in the world Subspace. Kirby and his Dragon Ship destroy the Gundoom Ship and Ganondorf and Bowser go back into Subspace as everyone enters Subspace.

After arriving, everybody then prepares to go farther off.

Ganondorf uses the Dark Cannon and turns Bowser into a Trophy realizing he doesn't need to be needed. He then kicks it away and meets Master Hand. He realizes then he is controlled by a Blue Monster, Tabuu with the Chains of Lights. Ganondorf then attempts to attack Tabuu but Tabuu uses his Energy Ball move and deflects the attack knocking Ganondorf out and when he hits the Chain of Lights and frees Master Hand, he is turned into a Trophy and Master Hand is knocked out. Master Hand rises again but Tabuu uses the Energy Ball move and deflects the attacking defeating Master Hand. Everybody sees him and prepares to attack until he uses his Wing Energy move (Off Waves) KOing and turning everybody into a Trophy (including Link, Pit, Peach, Zelda, and Lucario). He then hides himself in The Great Maze (a place where everywhere in the World of Trophies is taken to Subspace and he becomes the most powerful living thing in the world until all the fake places, fake characters, and bosses are destroyed).

Inside the King Dedede Castle (taken into Subspace), King Dedede, Ness, and Luigi Trophies are sitting. The King Dedede badges revive Luigi and Ness and Ness discovers about it and the master. Luigi pulls the badge off his nose. They free King Dedede and they prepare to adventure and to save everybody in Subspace.

After saving half of the group, King Dedede revives Bowser and he prepares to battle Dedede.

After being defeated, King Dedede revives him again and he finds out about the Great Maze.

Kirby is then revived by the King Dedede Badge and finds out about it. He then sets out a mission to save everybody.

Kirby then finds out about the Ganondorf Trophy but he is attacked by Bowser and he moves the Trophy. King Dedede then finds him and they unite while he drags him as he goes to the Great Maze.

After Link and Zelda are saved, they save Ganondorf and tell him about the Great Maze.

While King Dedede, Luigi, and Ness walk up to the Great Maze until Wario attacks King Dedede. Luigi and Ness help him up and tell him about the Great Maze. They walk up to the Great Maze while Wario rides his motorcycle.

After destroying most of the Great Maze, Tabuu is weakened and prepares his Wing Energy (Off Waves) but is weakened after Sonic the Hedgehog's Spindash destroys his wings. He then wants to kill everyone and Sonic helps the group on defeating Tabuu.

After defeating him, he is destroyed and Subspace is also destroyed and the whole entire world returns and all the places that were sucked into Subspace return except for The Isle of Ancients. then the entire clan stares into the sunset (as seen by the title). The Title Theme plays with lyrics, then the credits roll.

Toon Link then slides down at the Pirate Ship (located in the Forest) and is ready for someone to battle.

Jigglypuff dances at the Pokémon Stadium (located in the Swamp) and is ready for someone to battle.

Wolf drops off from the Wolf Ship onto the Lylat Cruise (located in the Ruins) and is ready for someone to battle.

The main antagonist of the Subspace Emissary is Tabuu, an evil character who is forced to stay in subspace. His goal is to tear apart the world in which the playable characters live in and merge it with his own world. He watches over the world and mainly Master Hand, the ruler of the world. He chained up Master Hand and made him look for others who would fill his wishes, namely Ganondorf, Bowser and Wario. Ganondorf pretended to follow Master Hand and Wario didn't care too much about his objective.

Each of the three characters were given Dark Cannons so that they could turn any potential threat to their plan into trophies. Next, Tabuu enlisted the Master Robot of the Isle of Ancients against his will after taking his followers hostage. He was ashamed that he followed Tabuu, even if his intention to save his people was truly good. In his shame, he clothed himself and became known as the Ancient Minister. Later, when Ganondorf betrayed him, and mind-controlled the robots, the Ancient Minister revealed himself to be a R.O.B. unit. Tabuu took over this place after discovering the vast technology that the robots have constructed, and put them to work. The R.O.B.s constructed the Subspace Bombs, the Dark Cannons, and even the Subspace Gunship.

Next, Tabuu noticed the odd beings known as Mr. Game & Watch, who have no understanding of good or evil. He used them to create the Shadow Bugs that carry the Primid (Tabuu's army) around. Then, Tabuu needed a large ship for fast transportation of his army. He eyed Meta Knight's Halberd and hijacked it when the character was fighting King Dedede.

The characters of the world, which include all of the playable characters in the game excluding Toon Link, Wolf, and Jigglypuff, joined forces and took down the evil forces of Tabuu in an epic battle. Meta Knight eventually regained his ship back and took on the Subspace Gunship headfirst before entering Subspace to take on Tabuu.

When Tabuu turned all of the characters into trophies, Luigi, King Dedede, and Ness were revived thanks to special brooches that Dedede constructed for that sole purpose. Kirby also found one and transformed most of the characters back into their normal selves. Tabuu attempted to turn the characters back into trophies again using his "off waves", though Sonic came to the rescue and weakened them.

Weapons and Defense

The Subspace Army possesses special weapons called Subspace Bombs. The R.O.B. Sentries (Robotic Operating Buddies) assist in activating each bomb. It takes 3 minutes before a bomb explodes. When a Subspace bomb explodes, it creates an enormous ball of energy that engulfs the area and brings it into Subspace. It is currently unknown as to what happens to living creatures when sucked into Subspace. In addition to the bombs, the Subspace Army also controls Meta Knight's massive airship, the Halberd. They use the Halberd to transport their armies and deliver the Subspace Bombs to their destinations.

The Primid

The Primid are the Subspace Army's main offensive soldiers.[1] They are puppet-like beings who bear the Subspace symbol on their chest and they appear in different types:

  • Primid - The Common Solider of the subspace army. They mainly run around and make faces at you, but can attack unexpectedly.
  • Fire Primid - Red Primid that have the ability to shoot fire.
  • Boom Primid - These Primid carry boomerangs and can therefore attack you from a distance.
  • Sword Primid - These Primids wield green variations of the beam sword. They occasionally drop beam swords when defeated.
  • Scope Primid - These Primid shoot from guns they carry around. They either shoot three consecutive shots or charge up for one larger shot. Once defeated they will either drop a Super Scope or a Cracker Launcher.
  • Big Primid - A basic Primid only bigger than their tiny brothers with attack power doubled.
  • Metal Primid - Just like the normal Primid but do not flinch, and have permanent reflectors.

Other Enemies

The Subspace army have many robotic minions that assist them greatly during the game.

  • The R.O.B. Squad, groups of various R.O.B.s whom have missiles and lasers as their weaponry.
  • The Greap - a large hulking mechanical being that sports two incredible sickles, its weak spot is its head.
  • Feyesh are big flying creatures that have a resemblance to both a fish and an eyeball.
  • The Shaydas, who seem to be made entirely out of fog - though also have two large sword like weapons as well. Their weak spot is the glowing orb in their chest.
  • The Bytan, while seemingly harmless - aren't, as the small spheroids are capable of multiplying. They bear a resemblance to Pokéballs.
  • The Poppant, on the other hand, are relatively harmless, seeing that once you approach them, they'll cower and skedaddle off the stage.
  • Roaders are unicycle like enemies who drive around the stage - and are very fast at doing so. Also, Roaders are reminiscent of the original ExciteBiker.
  • The Glunder is a static-producing eyeball that hides in a metal shell. When you get near them, they open their shells and send out electricity.
  • The Glire is some sort of subspecies of the Glunder, in which they send out fire instead of electricity.
  • Spaaks are large mechanical clouds that try to ram you. When attacked, they turn black and become more aggressive.
  • Mites are tiny creatures that look like stick figure drawings. They like to attack in huge groups and are continuously produced through dark portals that can also be destroyed.
  • Towtows are large pink and white sheep-like monsters that will charge at you with their spiral horns.
  • The Trowlon is a pink robotic like creature who is quite thin compared to many of the others. According to the website it'll use its trowel like body to carry their opponents, or rather your character, off the top of the screen.
  • The Auroros are large mechanical birds who'll charge their beaks into the ground, attempting to harm you. They look similar to Dragoon, a legendary Air Ride machine from Kirby Air Ride.
  • The Roturret is a large robot which has a cannon on either side. They float in the air, attempting to shoot you down. They can rotate, depending on which side you are on (so if you on its right, it will turn to its right to shoot etc.).

Aside from these enemies, there are others that appear. A few of these come from an actual series, including the Hammer Bros., Bullet Bills, Goombas, and Koopas.


At first, stickers may just seem like a useless but fun to collect item in the game, though that would be a false assumption. In fact, you're able to use them in the Subspace Emissary mode to greatly upgrade your character. Each Sticker possesses a special power-up that, when applied to the bottom of a particular character's trophy, will slightly upgrade his or her abilities. Some stickers are only available to certain characters, and thus, not usable on the other characters.

You're allowed to place as many stickers on the bottom of a trophy as you want, though eventually there will be no more room. You're not allowed to place them on top of each other, and once you peel a sticker off, it is gone forever, although stickers that have already been added can be moved to make room for new stickers.

Multiplayer Modes

The multiplayer modes of the Super Smash Bros. series have always been the main highlight. This time, multiplayer is more in-depth then ever before with not only more options, but the addition of Nintendo WiFi Connection as well, which lets you play with people from all across the world. The following is all the information regarding the multiplayer mode of Super Smash Bros. Brawl.


The tourney mode has been present in previous Super Smash Bros. installments, so it'd be obvious that they'd add it in Brawl. Basically, this is a mode where you play against a certain amount of people, going up all the way to 32. You play in various matches against your friends to determine who, out of all of them, is the best of the best. You have plenty of options before entering the tourney, including how many people per match, how many people will be playing, the rules of the game, which characters each person will be using, and so on. The winner also gets a nice looking trophy and the word "Champion" across the screen.

Nintendo Wi-Fi-Connection

For many months, fans speculated whether Wi-Fi would be added, with generally everyone hoping that they will in fact add it. On September 18, Nintendo confirmed that Wi-Fi would be included in the video game, and as expected would be very restricted compared to Sony or Microsoft's online program.

First off, if you wish to let people know your name, you have to have their friend code, and they have to have yours. If you're battling a friend, you'll be able to perform up to four different "taunts", which essentially make a word bubble come out of the character, saying a statement.

The farther away a player is, the more the game will lag. For example, the gameplay will move faster if someone from Kansas is playing against someone in the same state or surrounding states, though if they come across someone who happens to be from Europe or Japan, then the lag will be much greater.

If you don't have any friends with a copy of Brawl, then you'll still be able to fight other online, though the features will be limited compared to those found in friend mode. For example - you won't be able to showcase your name, and you won't be able to perform taunts that have the message bubbles. It should also be noted that the amount of games you've played in this mode will not be shown anywhere. However, if an opponent were to disconnect, they would quickly be replaced by a CPU, and the battle will continue as normal. Also, while waiting for a match to start, you'll be able to beat up the Sandbag from Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Also on WiFi mode are icons that you can select. These icons are wide ranged, though they include one for every playable character, one for each series' emblems, and your Mii characters. However, these are just the ones shown in the image featured on Smash Bros. Dojo, and it is expected that there are many more.

Another WiFi mode involves the classic Sandbag from Melee. In this mode, you can either compete for the highest score or work together to get a super-high one.

Spectator Mode

Spectator Mode is a Wi-Fi only mode that allows players across the world to observe selected matches and bet on who will win. Because you're not allowed to see the players' stats, there is no telling who has the upper-hand during the matches, and winning will really just be luck.

You bet with the coins that you obtain in the game, and the more coins you bet, the more you'll get if you end up being right. Also, if it happens to be a four player match rather than a two or three player game, then you'll either lose or win more coins depending on the results.

You'll commonly come in possession of Stickers in this mode, even if you don't win. You can get more Stickers if you do happen to win, though. Also, you may come across a Bonus Treasure, which can double or triple your coins, and you could also get a rare Sticker, or trophy. If you're lucky, you could get the hammer, which is used to unlock one square in Challenges.

Special Brawl

Special Brawl is an extra mode for multiplayer battles. It allows you to customize your matches just like in Special Melee from Smash Bros. Melee. You can determine different characteristics of the players such as their speed and size. You can also do special things, such as making them breath fire or turning them invisible. Finally, you can determine the camera angle of the game. The newest feature of this mode that was not in Melee is that you can mix each of these individual rules to form a super brawl, such as Stamina Mini Bunny Metal Curry Light Fast Angled Brawl.

Single Player Modes

Smash Bros. Brawl has many different Single Player Modes to test your skills and abilities with the characters.


Stadium mode is back in Brawl. The features included in Stadium mode are Home-Run Contest, Target Smash!!, Multi-Man Brawl (which has several modes in itself) and Boss Battles (unlocked after clearing the Subspace Emissary).

In Homerun Contest, the player must tackle a sandbag and raise its damage meter as far as possible within 10 seconds. Before the ten seconds is over, you're required then to pick up the baseball bat and send the sandbag soaring far off of the stage. One new feature in this mode is the shield that surrounds the stadium, preventing you from accidentally hitting the sandbag off of the stage. Another new feature is the fact that you're allowed to play with two people, either cooperatively or competitively.

In Target Smash!!, you're required to smash 10 targets within the time limit. There are only five stages in all, as opposed to the twenty five in Melee. Each stage is featured outside, and you're also allowed to share your score with other members via Nintendo WiFi Connection. Another new addition is the ability to conquer the levels with a friend in a co-op mode. The number of targets is always the same regardless of the difficulty level.

In the new Multi-Man Brawl mode, you face off against the Fighting Alloy Team, Brawl's version of the Polygons and the Wireframes. There are four figures you fight. There is a red character, which resembles Captain Falcon, a Blue Character that resembles Princess Zelda, A Green Character that resembles Kirby, and a Yellow character that, despite having horns, is similar to Mario. The Alloys can not perform special moves. A new feature also allows you to co-op this mode with a friend.

Boss Battles mode is unlocked after clearing the Subspace Emissary. In this mode, the player must defeat ten bosses from the Subspace Emissary, including Master Hand and Crazy Hand, who are not battled in that mode. Like other Stadium modes, Boss Battles can be played co-operatively. The order of the bosses is always random, except for Tabuu, who is always fought last. The player only has one life with three Heart Containers (five in co-op), and can heal between matches.

Classic Mode

This mode returns from the past two games and basically works the same way it always did. You must fight your way through a series of battles, each in a different Nintendo world. Some stages that you battle on may have different rules to include Giant matches, Metal matches, Team battles, or battles against up to three foes at once. At the end, you can gain special coins that can be bet in Spectator mode, and be used as ammo in the Coin Launcher minigame. You will always fight someone from the Zelda series first.

Training Mode

Training mode returns and seems to be the same from previous installments. Basically what you do here is try out the multiple characters that are playable, and practice with some of the items or abilities that you're able to perform. As in the previous games, you're able to mess with the options, which include changing the speed, picking certain items, the number of computer characters that appear on the screen (up to 3), the damage that the CPU has (up to 999%), the camera position, and a new feature called "help". When 'Help' is turned on, it displays information about the character's attacks, such as how much damage it is, and how many consecutive hits, along with others. This feature was always on in the previous two installments.

Events Mode

Events mode is confirmed to return from Super Smash Bros. Melee. This is a single player mode in which the player must battle through certain pre-determined situations. Each event now has the option of three difficulties: easy, normal, and hard. Examples of some of the events featured in brawl include a battle against teamed up Bowser and Dedede, Pit's destruction of the Skyworld platforms, Yoshi laying Pikachu and Kirby in eggs simultaneously, and an epic battle between Link and Dark Link. Brawl features 41 single-player event matches in total.

A new addition to this mode that wasn't present in Melee is co-op play events, which must be played with a second player. There are 21 co-op events. There are three difficulty levels with each event, as with single-player.

The Vault

The vault is a new section in Brawl that focuses on the trophies and stickers that you'll collect in the game. It also houses the Stage Builder. In all, there are six sub-sections including the Trophy Gallery, the Trophy Hoard, the Coin Launcher, the Sticker Album, the Sticker Center, and the Stage Builder. Information on each particular section can be seen below.

Trophy Gallery

The Trophy Gallery was present in Super Smash Bros. Melee, though is slightly updated. All your trophies that you've collected in the game will be listed here, though this time it'll be dramatically updated to make it easier for searching for the trophy you're looking for. Each trophy in the gallery features a background of each character, item or stage, and gives a detailed look at the subject in question as well. You're able to zoom in on your trophy, turn it around and change the background to fit your needs. The trophies, as aforementioned, will be separated into categories which includes series and type. You get a trophy for every player you pass Classic Mode with.

Trophy Hoard

You're able to see every trophy you've collected all together in a setting in the trophy hoard, and create your own settings as well. Once you collect a new trophy, it'll be featured in the hoard in a set position. As formerly mentioned you can also create your own setting by placing certain trophies together and by changing the scenery to whatever you want.

Coin Launcher

The coin launcher replaces the slot machine from Melee. You're able to get coins in the game by performing certain feats. Almost everything you do will earn you coins, though the better you do them, the more coins you'll come in possession. Rather than placing them in a slot machine as you did in Melee, you'll place them in a sort of gun called the Coin Launcher. Afterwords, trophies, stickers, and explosive projectiles will rain down from above. If you shoot the trophies and stickers enough times, then they'll go in your trophy or sticker center. Make sure you also destroy the bombs as well, because if they hit you you'll lose a bunch of coins.

Sticker Center and Album

Stickers are a new item in the game. They're similar to trophies, except there are many more, though you'll also get no background information on the character, and understandably so. With the stickers, you can make scrapbooks and albums, plus take images of them and send them to friends via the Nintendo WiFi Connection.


In this mode, you're allowed to play demos for multiple different classic games, including but not limited to Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Kid Icarus, Super Metroid, and Star Fox 64. Each of the games are available to purchase and download on the Wii's Virtual Console service.

There are thirty five playable characters that the user can chose from. Several characters, including SamusAran, Princess Zelda, and the Pokémon Trainer have alternate forms, which brings the total count up to thirty nine. All twelve of the original characters from Super Smash Bros. return, though some of them must be unlocked. Dr. Mario, Roy, Young Link, Mewtwo and Pichu, five characters who appeared in Melee, were removed in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Some of the new characters are said to have replaced those characters, such as Ike (Roy), Toon Link (Young Link) Lucario (Mewtwo) Wario (Dr.Mario) And Pokémon Trainer (Pichu)

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the first game to feature third party characters. Solid Snake was the first of the two announced. Sonic the Hedgehog was announced via the Smash Bros. Dojo website.

The following are a list of stages that appear in Brawl. There are 31 stages created specifically for Brawl, while there are ten "Melee Stages," that have been taken directly from Melee.

Returning from Melee

Stage Builder

The Super Smash Bros. series undeniably has some of the greatest replay value of any video game series. The addition of the stage builder immensely adds to this formula as you're capable of creating countless different types of stages and send them to friends.

Creating a stage is simple - first you must decide on which background you wish your stage to be featured on, and how big it should be. Currently it appears that there are three different backgrounds and three sizes. Also during this time you're allowed to choose the music that will play on this stage, though only from a selection of music that you've already collected.

Next, you'll got to the edit stage section, where you add the stage pieces, which are wide ranged from different structures, floors, special features and so on. When adding, you're able to flip parts from left to right, enlarge or shrink selected parts, erase, swap palettes, and zoom in and out, among other things.

Once you've made your ideal stage, you'll then be allowed to name it and add a comment. Apparently, you can add a bunch of stages without worrying about the dramatic SD card memory (up to 1000 stages). After creating a stage, you'll be able to send it to a friend that you've registered.

Another interesting feature is sending your stages to Nintendo. At the end of the day, Nintendo will select the best of the sent stages, and will send them to anyone who's on Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. However, you must play on this stage quick, because it will vanish after exactly one day.

Note: As of now, Nintendo will no longer be accepting custom stages from any players of the game but will continue distributing stages they already have.


Final Smash- Certainly one of the most notable of the new items is the Smash Ball. Unlike many of the other items in the game, you'll literally have to attack this item in order to possess its amazing power.

Helping- Making a return is the Poké Ball, which releases a random Pokémon that will attack all other enemies except the person who threw the ball. The site confirms that new Pokémon will be available, such as Groudon and Deoxys. It has also been confirmed that fourth generation Pokémon will appear, as Munchlax has been shown.

Assist trophies are items that are somewhat like the Poké Ball, but instead of releasing a Pokémon, it releases a character that didn't quite make the cut as a playable character. They "assist" the fighter who uses the item by attacking, much like a Pokémon. A list of Assist Trophy characters can be seen below.

Shooting- Many shooting items will be in the game. Unlike in Melee, you can fire the item while running and jumping. The Cracker Launcher rapidly shoots firecrackers in any direction you choose. The Super Scope will make a return along with the ray gun. Fire flowers will also return with their original design from Smash Bros. 64.

Projectiles- One unusual new item that was announced is the Banana Peel, which can be thrown on the ground for your foes to slip on. It is unknown what the Banana Peel originates from, with the Mario Kart or DK series being the most likely.

A returning item from the original Smash Bros. 64 game is the Bumper, which was actually the only item that hadn't returned to Melee. In Brawl, when characters touch the Bumper, they will get violently knocked around by it. A new feature of the bumper is that it can now float. It is speculated that the Flipper from Balloon Fight (which appeared in Melee) has been scrapped, due to the large similarities to it and the Bumper.

The Spring Board from Super Mario World was revealed in the demo. At first, it can be carried; but when thrown, it bounces around and characters can get bounced by it.

Another new item has been revealed called the Pitfall, which comes from the Animal Crossing series. When thrown, it disappears into the ground as a hidden trap wherever it lands. If a character lands on it, he/she will become trapped in the ground for a short period of time. When placed on a pass-through platform, it will merely cause the character to fall directly through the platform. The Smoke Ball also joins the item roster. When thrown, a smoke ball will produce various colors of smoke that can blind your foes and make fighting difficult. It has been confirmed that Mr. Saturns and Green Shells will return.

The site confirms a new item named the Gooey Bomb, which is a bomb that can be thrown to your foe. If it gets stuck there for too long it will explode, thus harming the enemy. Another new item is the Smart Bomb from the Star Fox series, which causes an enormous explosion when thrown. Bob-ombs will also return as items.

Bludgeoning- The Golden Hammer from the Wrecking Crew video game has been revealed. It acts as a normal hammer (which has also been shown), though will attack with greater force and speed. If it goes fast enough - you'll even be able to walk on thin air! Some of the Golden Hammers, however, don't quite work, and if you attack your opponent, it'll turn into what the director calls the "Golden Squeaky Hammer", and just squeak upon impact, rather than harming them. Many bludgeoning items will return from the original game, including beam swords, home-run bats, star rods, and paper fans. The Lip's Stick item from Melee was also shown to make a return to Brawl. Warpstars were also shown to return from Melee.

Transformation- The Superspicy Curry from the Kirby series enters Brawl. When eaten, it causes characters to breath fire continuously, even when performing attacks. The new Special Brawl mode suggests the possible return of the metal box, bunny ears, cloaking device, and mushrooms as transformation items.

Gear- The Franklin Badge is featured in Brawl as a new item from the Earthbound series. Unlike most items, this badge can actually be worn by characters when picked up. The Franklin Badge possesses the ability to protect the character wearing it from projectiles and even reflect them. This item is also small and hardly noticeable when worn by characters.

Explosives- A new item of what looks to be explosives of the size of a crate can be a pain if one does not know how to use it at the right time and by what it means, be careful with fire around it.

Health Replenishing- Food will return from Melee and will come in many varieties. Heart Containers and Maximum Tomatoes will also return to Brawl. Another item is Team Healer which allows you to throw this item at a team mate to help relieve damage.

Item Containers- Two other returning items are crates and barrels. This time around, they will be changed visually along with the type of scenery (i.e. on the Star Fox stage, they are metal and futuristic, and on Yoshi's Island, they are presents). There are also sliding crates that slide along the ground and down hills when you throw them. Characters will be able to stand on top of Rolling Crates, a kind of crate that has wheels and a lot of pain to boot. Capsules will also return, along with Party Balls.

Combining- The Dragoon from Kirby Air Ride also appears as an item, but with a twist. It is separated into three parts that must be collected in order to assemble it. Once assembled, the Dragoon will allow you to aim with a cross hair and ride through opponents causing one-hit KOs. Like the Smash Ball, parts of the Dragoon can be dropped if you take too many hits from your foes.

Unknown Items- What looks to be an ordinary soccer ball was shown as an item. It likely originates from the Mario Strikers series. When the soccer ball is hit by an attack, it catches on fire and speeds in the direction of the hit before losing momentum and falling down. An item shaped like an alarm clock was shown falling out of a party ball. The Japanese "Famitsu" magazine stated that the alarm clock slows down time for your opponents. A new item resembling a sea urchin with eyes was revealed in the demo.

Assist Trophies

Assist Trophies are items but when picked up it summons a video game character, similar to the Pokéball.

Poké Balls

Poké Balls are items found in the Pokémon series, each one containing a Pokémon that you're able to summon out into battle. Certain Pokémon, such as Mew and Celebi, two popular legendary Pokémon, will drop presents such as CD's, though the likelihood of them appearing is very low. The following are a list of Pokémon that are featured in Brawl.

Collectible Items

In Smash Bros. Brawl, there are special collection elements that add a large diversity of items that you can gain as rewards. Collectibles can be found during multi-player battles or by completing certain tasks. They are divided into a few separate categories:

  • Stickers- These items are new to the Smash Bros. series and can be collected during multi-player matches. Players can place stickers in an album and make single frame comics or even save screenshots.
  • CDs- Like stickers, these can also be collected in-game. By picking up a CD, players can gain new music for different stages in the game. A new mode also allows players to change the likelihood that a song will play on a stage.
  • Trophies- Trophies were confirmed to return into Brawl. As before, you will be able to gain trophies as prizes for accomplishing certain tasks. Each one features a solid model of an in-game character along with its description and the ability to rotate the trophy itself. It was stated that trophies are somewhat harder to gain than stickers, and you will be able to view the ones you find in a list or gallery.


The music this time around was created by over 35 musicians who remade their favorite Nintendo songs - including new ones (New Super Mario Bros.) as well as classic old ones (Super Mario Bros.).

Each stage features multiple different songs that will be picked randomly (by default, if one wishes they can choose which songs will be played, or which songs will have a better chance of being played). For example, Delfino Plaza has 5 different songs. Each song will fit in with the series - The Bridge of Eldin stage will have Zelda only songs and so on. You're also be able to pick how often these songs appear.

Another new feature are CDs, which will appear while you fight. If you pick a CD up, you'll be able to later hear the song that's playing. However, these disappear quickly and are prone to falling off edges and can also be acquired by the CPU.

The track "The Roost" (composed by Kazumi Totaka ) is available with the CD Touch! Generations Soundtrack


The game has been rumored to be in production long before it was confirmed, and ever since then the speculation on who would be present started. At E3 2006, Nintendo officially revealed the game along with characters including Mario, Link, Kirby, Pikachu, Samus Aran, Pit, Meta Knight, Wario, and a surprise appearance of Snake. The movie noted the enhanced graphics and showed off some new items including the Smash Ball and the Nintendog, which at the time was assumed to just be an item, and not an Assist Trophy (seeing that Assist Trophies weren't known about back then). Also shown was Samus's ability to turn into Zero Suit Samus, though how she could do so wasn't revealed until much later.

At the time, it was also suggested that it'd be a launch title for the Wii, though it's now known that it won't be released until more than a year afterwards. Apparently, according to director Masahiro Sakurai, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata visited him, asking him to return once again as director for the game. This was actually during E3 2005, a year before the video's launch.

Then for many months, no news of the game was released, though that didn't stop the hype. In every issue of Nintendo Power they'd have a section each month dedicated to one of the revealed characters, though sadly no new information was found through this, and was mainly just a biography for the characters.

In early/mid 2007, it was announced that Sakurai would open up a blog that he'd update every week-day that would reveal plenty of information (see above).
