Team Rocket is the notorious group of Pokemon thieves who appear in almost every Pokemon episode to Till Johto. The mainly shown members are as follows:

Jessie: A redheaded female who really makes up the beauty AND the brains of the team. She also tends to have quite a temper when James and Meowth get on her nerves or 'mess their plans up.'

James: A blueish-purple haired male who is only there to assist Jessie, as he normally lands the group in trouble or does not know quite what to do. Being a little more soft than Jesse, he occasionally questions some of their plans (sometimes because it feels embarrassing or he actually has some conscience stirring in his head.) Either way, he has no wish to return to his controlling parents at their mansion and loose his freedom of life.

Meowth: Seeing as he is the pokemon who can talk, Meowth loves to spew insults at anyone with ears. He originally learned to talk so he could impress a girl Meowth (There's a whole episode on it), but he was only considered a freak for it. However, his ability has proven priceless to Jesse and James. It allows him to relay what other pokemon are saying, and, seeing that Team Rocket tends to get lost in most the pokemon movies, it helps them get back on track. Even though he is a pokemon, Meowth isn't much of a fighter. He'd much rather be the pampered favorite of Giovanni, the big boss of Team Rocket, but he's still hoping that capturing Pikachu will earn him some favor.

Their mission in life is to steal Ash's beloved Pikachu (and call Ash a "twerp" at least 1 million times before they die, obviously), and though they have come close on various occasions, they've never gotten Pikachu yet. Of course, when they're not out attempting to Poke-nap Pikachu, they're off stealing someone else's Pokemon, so they're never out of work for long. They have yet to impress their Boss, who's identity is not revealed in most of the episodes early in the first season.
