Tengu Man

Tengu Man.

Tengu Man is a character who debuted in Mega Man 8 and made a return in Mega Man & Bass. He is a Robot Master who was based on the mythical tengu. Tengu Man bears the serial number DWN-057.

Character[]

Personality[]

Tengu Man tends to be very snooty, confident, and proud of his own skills, a stark contrast to how Astro Man goes through life. To Tengu Man, Rock is nothing more than a mere kid, but this ends up biting Tengu Man in the ass as the Blue Bomber trashes him. Despite this, Tengu Man has an honorable side, dropping some old English in his speech, such as "Thy opponent is me! Brace thyself!" (translated as "I'm your opponent! Be ready!") as one of his potential pre-battle lines.

Physical Appearance[]

Tengu Man resembles a Tengu. He has red skin and wears a grey suit with blue shorts and yellow shoulder pads. He has blue boots with some white on the front and lighter blue soles with red on the front, with green gems at the toes. Two spines and a jetpack protrude from his back.

Tengu Man's Weapon[]

Tengu Man wields Tornado Holds and the Tengu Blade for his weapons. Rock can get his hands on the former in Mega Man 8 and the latter in Mega Man & Bass.

Mega Man 8[]

Stage[]

Tengu Man makes his lair in Japan. To reach Tengu Man's base, Rock might need the help of his dog Rush to get over some large pits. If he falls to the ground, Rock will automatically be KO'ed, even if he could survive in reality.

Battle[]

Rock and Tengu Man spar on a floating island in the sky. When Rock sets his foot on the floating island, Tengu Man destroys the bridges so Rock cannot escape. Tengu Man spends most of his time floating, but he can dive at Rock and throw a fan blade on the ground, the latter spawning a tornado that carries Rock into the air so Tengu Man can spike him. Rock can use his Ice Wave to get an advantage when Tengu Man does his dive attack; on a hit, the cryogenic wave freezes Tengu Man to the ground, paralysing him. Tengu Man will break free from his prison afterwards, though. Rock gets the Tornado Hold as his prize when Tengu Man meets his demise.

Mega Man & Bass[]

Although he was apparently killed Mega Man 8, Tengu Man barely survived his duel with Rock according to this game. King apparently found Tengu Man and resurrected him building his robot army. Tengu Man retains his attacks in battle but now gives the Tengu Blade, which works like Sword Kirby's charge attack from the Kirby franchise and is Magic Man's weakness. Rock will also be pushed rather than be susceptible to cheap shots upon getting his body caught in the Tornado Hold, and can escape if he wants. Perhaps as a joke to anti-air missiles, Tengu Man is weak to the Spread Drill, and will comically fall if he gets struck by one.

Trivia[]

  • A glitch can happen in Mega Man & Bass where Tengu Man can get stuck in the walls of his arena during his dive attack and you use a Spread Drill.
