The Caligula Effect: Overdose is a role-playing game released for the Nintendo Switch by FuRyu. The game was released outside of Japan by NIS America. The game is in a similar style to the Persona franchise with the game structured around getting better acquainted with the various characters in the game before going into the dungeons for traditional turn-based combat.

Gameplay[]

The game is structured around two parts; the socializing aspect and the dungeons. The player interacts with the various NPCs to unlock them as party members and unlock side quests. These unlock by achieving certain ranks of association with each one.

The dungeon aspect is more traditional with the composed of 4 characters from the 9 main characters and the many recruitable ones in the school. The enemies in the dungeon are visible with combat starting when the players make contact.

Plot[]

The plot of The Caligula Effect is that it takes place in a virtual reality program called the "Mobius", invented to help people with the pain in their lives by experiencing an ideal high school life, living out these days indefinitely. One day, the main characters realize that they are trapped in a simulation and form the Go-Home Club, a group dedicated to escaping Mobius. They fight with the Ostinato Musicians, a group that supports this lifestyle and views the Go-Home Club as a threat.
