The Longest Five Minutes is a unique role-playing game released for the Nintendo Switch, developed by Nippon Ichi Software and published by NIS America. The game was released in the early stages of 2018 both digital and physical forms worldwide, with the exception of Japan where the game has to be downloaded digitally through the eShop service. It is about a hero in the last five minutes against the final boss and reminiscing over the journey.

Plot[]

At the start of the game, the hero loses all his memories as he starts the fight with the demon lord. He forgets everything from his journey including his attacks. During the battle, the words of his allies and the Demon Lord's taunts trigger flashbacks and bring back his memory piece by piece.

Gameplay[]

The game is played in a traditional JRPG style but, instead of progressing from the first town all the way to the final boss, the player experiences flashbacks of these events. The main conflict is the hero trying to remember to use his ultimate attacks to defeat the Demon Lord, playing like a visual novel before going through the flashback JRPG segments. The player then uses the reexperience points to unlock skills to face the Demon Lord's latest attacks. The timer in the top right indicates story progress, in the game's namesake.
