A Thwomp is an enemy species in the Mario Series. The species first appearance was in Super Mario Bros. 3 for the NES where they would wait in the air, then crash down on you once you past them. They later appeared in many other games such as Super Mario 64, the Paper Mario series, the Mario Kart series, and others. These "Thwomps" are related to Whomps, which are similar to thwomps with legs. Thwomps made a cameo appearance in the Game Boy video game The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, in which they naturally were an enemy..
