Thwomp from Super Mario Galaxy 2
Series Mario series
First game Super Mario Bros. 3 (1988)
Created by Nintendo

A Thwomp is an enemy species in the Mario series. The species first appearance was in Super Mario Bros. 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System where they would wait in the air, then crash down on you once you past them. They later appeared in many other games such as Super Mario 64, the Paper Mario series, the Mario Kart series and others. These "Thwomps" are related to Whomps, which are similar to Thwomps with legs.

AppearancesEdit

Mario seriesEdit

Thwomps first appeared in the Nintendo Entertainment System video game Super Mario Bros. 3. In the game they would await for Mario to approach them, and would then suddenly drop at an incredible velocity towards Mario in an attempt to squash him. If they succeeded, Mario would lose a life. Thwomps retained this basic ability in future Mario games that they appeared in.

Super Smash Bros. seriesEdit

Thwomps were represented in Super Smash Bros. Melee as a collectible trophy. The following is the Thwomp's trophy description:

"Thwomps spend most of their time suspended in midair, waiting. When Mario passes below, they crash down with amazing speed. As you may guess from their appearance, they're heavy and solid enough to make any attack on them futile. Small ones are called Thwimps: despite their weight, they often form groups and bounce around."

The Legend of Zelda seriesEdit

Thwomps made a cameo appearance in the Game Boy video game The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, in which they naturally were an enemy.
